If you have never………

If you haven’t driven your MX5 in the Pyrenees or Alps yet, maybe this will convince you:

The only downside is that driving in the UK seems rather tame by comparison afterwards!

Very good recording :+1:

Curious re number plates and left hand drive MX-5 s…Did you meet up with fellow Europeans or hire an MX-5 once you were there ?

[If you get ‘withdrawal symptoms’ …try Yorkshire in the UK ]

Fabulous! Reminded me of our trips to the Alps with Scenic Car Tours. We are off to the Picos de Europa mountains and the Douro valley next year with SCT and some fellow club members. Can’t wait!

No, I wasn’t involved. I think they were French on a trip across the Pyrenees to the Spanish side.

We were in the Spanish Pyrenees this June but also drove across to the French side on a trip. Wonderful!

I might post a video if I can find a suitable one but it won’t be edited to the same standard!

I actually live in East Yorkshire so know the county very well. Some nice roads but not exactly the Pyrenees!

We stayed four nights in the Picos in 2022, stunning scenery, hard to believe you are in Spain!

Thanks for posting, epic scenery and roads, I can’t imagine there could be anything better. The NDs all look stunning too, a great adventure!

Best roads I have done are the Napoleon Pass, Stelvio Pass and the Saint Bernard’s Pass.

I have ridden all of those on a Ducati but not driven them in an MX5. I found the Stelvio a bit nadgery and too many camper vans but glad I did it all the same. Both St Bernard passes are fabulous.

Great video, amazing scenery. We’re on the same trip to The Picos and Douro as first_rider_off, next September and can’t wait!

Agreed. Drove from Bilbao to Santiago de Compostella via Oviedo/Gijón and this area is not what one’s expects in Spain……. Galicia is actually called the “Celtic coast” and when we were there it was very reminiscent of Ireland- wet and windy and surprisingly green.

Wow, thanks for the video mxomatotis, and those suggestions guys :+1:

  • now have to convince the new kid on the block (and partner in crime)to come with me!

Well, I hope you have more luck than I when I forwarded the video to my friend. Her reply was “Great scenery, but in a soft top - Noooo” !!
It looks as though should I ever do the Picos, it will be solo - however, more luggage space for me.

May I ask, what is the car in your avatar……/
Looks very like a Moss Roadster I once had…. Although the DVA says yours is a Jag??
Sorry to interrupt

If they are concerned about the lack of luggage space to accommodate their wardrobe, the solution is very simple. Stay in apartments with a washing machine and take quick wash and dry, non iron clothing. Our last trip in Northern Spain was over 3 weeks and we didn’t run out of clean clothing once although admittedly some of the colour combinations were interesting at times. We managed with one small suitcase, a gym holdall and a small rucksack for walking to carry water & bits & bobs. We even managed to take our Lavazza pod coffee machine which we take on every trip.

Yes, it is a Moss Roadster, a Mk 1 which I originally built using Triumph Herald 1200 mechanics. The engine was very arthritic and I eventually rebuilt the car a few years later with a parallel rail chassis and a Fiat twin cam 1600cc engine and gearbox from a crashed 131 Mirafiori. The only Jag bit was a Mk2 front grill. I eventually sold it to a lady in 2009 who kept on badgering me for her to buy it, and so put the money towards my NB. We went everywhere in it and as far south as the Languedoc in France. Two smallish suitcases strapped to the luggage rack and using the 6” high sloping space between the seats for oddments. We were certainly economical on clothing!!

Crossing the Millau bridge.

Amazing to see another Moss, thanks for confirming.
Not wishing to hijack/divert this thread……I bought my BRG Moss Roadster Kit from John Cowperthwaite in Yorkshire in 1983. Mine was a “roadster” like yours, the two seater, as opposed to the “Malvern” which as a four seater……… I had just come home from Bradford Uni and was living with my parents in Belfast.
Mine was the later version and the kit came with a chassis designed to take Ford Escort mechanicals…. I bought a 1.3 Escort Mk 2 Ghia, which had been rolled by the previous owner, and this donated the engine, and rear axle amongst other things. I see you used Corbeau seats- as I did.
Interesting that we have both found our way to Mx5 ownership…… a common thread/ similarities between the cars (& owners).

The BBQ photo at the top of the post above this, taken in Castle Ward, a National Trust property near the village of Strangford in Co. Down , 1986.
The photo in this post shows our stormy blue NC just above Meia Praia beach, Lagos, Algarve, in 2022.
Lesley is still putting up with me………

Aged 66 yrs I can’t recall this marvelous vehicle BUT I’m pleased to recognize the type of photo album you’ve kept the photographs in because it’s the same type as I’ve got housing photographs of my vehicles e.g. Triumph Spitfire Mk IV ; Ford Escort Mk IV before I bought my NB which I only have digital pictures off :grinning:
