Is the wave dead?

I always wave if I spot a 5 in time from my 95 NA California.
However, Often feel foolish when waving driving wife’s Jazz !

I always wave , just assume not a club member if i dont get one back

Got my first wave from another MX5 today, a woman driving a red ND saw me in my NC and gave a cheery wave along with a big smile.

On the way home from work I waved at a woman in a white ND but got nothing in return. #keepthewave

Variable results: no response from a bloke in an NC on the way to work this morning, but guy in a Z4 waved at me first the other day.

Even when it’s a beautiful sunny day and you’re having the best time, top down on the open road, the other car’s occupants may be having a bad day for whatever reason.

Two weeks into MX5 ownership now and have had a total of two waves so far! Quite a few non responses but I shall persevere with the practice.

I love doing the wave/lights in my ND at NC drivers. I find about 15% reciprocate it, but I reckon the other 85% look clueless as if they don’t even know the other car (mine) is also an MX-5. Don’t seem to have that issue with (about not so many now) NA and NB (or of course ND) owners.

And probably the top up

Five waves today with three returned. This is an improvement. Mayhap the constant sun is warming people up?

As long as I keep getting brain waves I am happy…

Out to town this morning, saw 2 separate NCs, waved and 2 replies😎

I wonder if the Fiat Spider that sneaked into Harewood got many waves on the way there and back.

I find it’s a bit hit and miss, especially drivers of ND’s and I drive an ND and always wave. When we had the Spitfire, MGB and Alpine we always had waves from classic car owners in general and with the Land Rovers, Series and Defenders we always had a wave, unfortunately yet to have a wave with the new shape Defender we now have

Got a wave from an ND and a silver NB today. Gave a chap in a classic roadster (not quite sure what as I passed) a thumbs up yesterday and got one back. But I was on my road bike…

After two weeks of Ownership I’ve had about 6 waves, one happened during the test drive which I took to be a good omen :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: .

All NCs and NAs though, haven’t run into any NDs.

After nearly two years of owning the ND my experience has been that less than 50% wave and most of them are pre-ND! Yesterday I encountered a young lady driver in a red NA, like us hood down, - its winter here, - who must be relatively local as I have been greeted by her before. She had both headlights (the cars, just to be clear) ‘blinking’ while leaning over the door with a massive smile and a big wave. More than makes up for all the times I get ignored!

Three of us in NC, ND & NB respectively just had four days away from Norfolk in North York Moors and we always wave. Got to say as lead, NC, car most MX5s encountered in Yorkshire elicited a wave - great. Unlike Lincolnshire where there were few wavers. Returning into Norfolk on A47 saw only one MX5 and yes there was a wave so statistically Norfolk is a friendly place.

The wave is alive and well. I was just pulling out of the garage I use in Sale yesterday morning, and another of their customers was just pulling away from the kerb in his nice grey MX5. Waves exchanged

Well my waves are being ignored again.
I am on a 5% response rate at the moment…
