I’m using those same E-approved Fog/DRL lights also. I transferred them from my NC1 Niseko to NC3.75 25AE.
An easy fit on the NC1, some minor soldering needed only to the fuse holder adaptor leads.
Fitting Vinstar DRLs in a 2008 NC
After a top-down drive in the sun to Cliveden early last week and needing to put my lights on because the lanes were so dark with overhanging trees and the 4x4s coming the other way seemed to want all of the road, I’ve bitten the bullet and fitted the Vinstar kit from MX5Parts .
The Fogs take 0.9A each, the DRLs 0.5A each from 12V on the bench, and dropping to a bit less as the volts rise to 14V when engine is running to maintain a constant current on the LEDs…
The NC3.75 required major surgery on Mazda’s plastic fog-light brackets to accommodate the deeper Fog/DRL bodies.
Today I began the DRL+Fog conversion of the original NC3 Fog lights. Rather than buy a new kit I re-used the one I salvaged from my NC1 Niseko before the Copart guy drove it away onto his multi-car trailer.
Of course while the Mazda fitted fogs are identical, the mounting system is totally different, and doing it this way some fettling is necessary. Some pics follow to show the problem and my solution.
