Just found a good company for retro style wheels

hey ive just came across this site the comapny is called Superlite (obv abit of a rip off to minilite, but hey) there cheap and look not too bad. www.superlite-wheels.com/

would be interesting if any one has used these or have any experince with them.

im thinking about getting these for mine http://www.superlite-wheels.com/wheelpage.asp?cat=1 the 7’ by 13’

You might have a look at classic car owners club sites such as this http://www.tssc.org.uk/, or other Triumph, MG, Mini etc owners club sites. These wheels are very popular on those cars, as are the genuine minilites

thanks, there also very expensive but the superlites are about 300 so i may go with them

Don’t they do them in 14/15"?

I fear you may struggle for tyre choice with 13s.

yh they do go bigger i think up to 16’s but i was thinking of having 13’s with larger tyres to fill the arch space a little , but i will need to find out from my local tyre place to see if this is possible. i hope so Thinking

You may also have issues with the brakes; either the wheels fitting over the calipers, or lack of cooling to the front brakes, causing lack of braking.

actually thts a very good point but it has been done so many times so i dnt think this is much of an issue, all the Japanese guys with there mx5 seem to all choose the smaller retro look.

i best go 14’s to be on the safe side really thanks Thumbs up

are those superlites on the price lists priced per wheel or per 4?

on there website i think its per wheel,

there have to be pretty mad to sell a set for 100 for 4 rims Stick Tongue Out

No, they mostly stick with 14" not 13":

http://www.rs-watanabe.co.jp/userspage_new/mazda.htm

Certainly I’ve known MX5s running on Opel Manta 13" wheels to lose all braking on the track, solved by ripping off the front brake dust shields.

The main users of 13" wheels are US autocrossers, who will deliberately choose an undersized (diameter) tyre, to improve the gearing; but not for road use.

And, unless you go for a fancy alloy material, they’re not exactly “superlite”,  with the 14"s clocking on to be nearly 50% heavier than the factory BBS.

And it seems you don’t get a great choice on offsets; I suppose it depends if you are going purely for looks or not. The nearest to factory is a 15" wheel with a 33mm offset.

!13 inch wheels and tyres with high walls are not a good recipe for cornering .Be warned.!

yh well you see im not a maniac on the road so i wont be speeding with these, u dnt need to get touchy about the 13’ rims i was reading a post on a different forum it seemed to me that there was plenty of candidates with 13 wheels, its only what ive seen and read.

and my car isnt for track use,

plus ive already said the 14 or 15 will look much better and handle better.

im not too bothered about the weight as ive said its not a track car or a racing car its just a gorgoues mx5 Thumbs up

Do remember your insurance company should know about changes.

Not being touchy, just trying to give some helpful advice.

Where the wheel weight will show is if you presumably lower the car; the increase in unspung weight will lead to an even crashier ride.

If you are trying to create the impression of a smaller diameter wheel,  then darker, dished designs help, coupled to an oversize (width) tyre; eg going from 185/60 14 to 195/60 14.

Personally, for the Superlites, the proportions of the spokes to me don’t look quite right on the MX5, compared to Watanabe or Panasport. Also consider the Rota RB, £530 for the 15x8 version, in various finishes. Its been around a few years, and has earned a good reputation with MX5 owners, plus lots of pictures around to see if you really like it.

Thanks AT (didnt mean to be rude)

i just get the impresion that people think becuase im young i dont know any better thats all.

i have seen the RB rotas and i do like those alot

and the watanabe are pretty popular sorry to say i prefer the rotas for some reason or volk rays Embarassed

Watanabe; official Minilite-licenced product, made in Japan.

RB: unofficial copy of a Watanabe, made in the Phillippines.

Watanabes very popular in Japan, but expensive here.

yh i no im up to speed with you,

if i could afford a decent set of Wataanabes i wouldnt be looking at cheaper styles, unfortunately some of us have to go with these copies, dont get me wrong im sure there be ok, about 500 for a set of brand new Rb’s with tyres and fitted,

where as watanabes as far as i can see from £1500 for second hand to £4000, i dont no if ive been looking in the wrong places but i have heard there expensive.

any way quick question is there anywhere anyone knows of places that create leather Quilted interior or just the fabric by metres?
