Key replacement - NC

Hi all. I have a 2007 Mk3.1 and very happy for your feedback. I purchased a spare replacement fob (which suits the Mazda RX7. I needed to move the old transponder and old key to the new fob. Almost did it but pricked my finger to wind up the spring. After a few failed attempts (it is high risk to ones fingers) I accepted a reduced spring wind which means the key doesn’t flick open. But the new fob looks great (no tape needed) and seems to operate better. Next time I would rather pay £25 to a key specialist to do (if they exist) and have the spring flick working.

Ivejust ordered a key (4 button type) from Mazda £204 then it needs programming, which will be extra. I lost the transponder out of my 2nd key. :japanese_ogre:

Oh - I think my key cost about £12 and it is the 4 button type. I also have a new Audi Q2 which seems to have a similar key. Suspect they all come from the same factory in China.

Ouch - they are having a giraffe with that pricing.

Lucky - I had one fully working key - it cost me appx £50 to buy and code 3 aftermarket keys.
They all work perfectly.

Hi CBRDEANO, I would love to know where you can get transponders programmed so cheaply. I know you can get empty key cases with a blank key on eBay, program the radio fob via the car and get the key blank cut at a locksmith, but it is getting the transponder cheaply programmed that is the missing piece of the puzzle for me.

You just need an ELM327 usb obd cable and download a program called ForScan.

Does Forscan encode the key transponder

Technically you don’t encode the key transponder.

ForScan tells the car ECU to accept the chip in the key as one that switches off the immobilizer.

I had a key repaired by this company

I rang them first to discuss the repair, posted off the key by recorded delivery. I received the repaired key 3 days later by recorded post.

They did a first class job and again had the new key fob back 3 days later
