Leave me alone I’m having fun

Let me guess Steve 59 club ?

Pure guess, but maybe the Golf Audi-milled quad piped R quattro with a claimed 0-60 of 4 & a bit seconds.
Brutal.
You had not a lot of chance if so.

I had a pax lift last month in a recent Fiesta ST 200 plus (chipped!) job last month piloted by a Police Traffic owner & son’s workmate. I’ve had runs in a few very fast cars over my 45 years, including a proper Cobra, and I’d say this wee Fiesty was right up there on the straights with that Big Block Cobra.
We are talking former big hefty Sierra 500 numbers in cars that weigh a lot less these days.

Trust me here, I know precisely where you are coming from, For fear of seeming to be bragging I have had some very fast cars , Lamborghini Ferrari’s And some quite fast Jaguars with 0/60’s in the lower 4’s…
But nothing but nothing come close to my SL 600 Bi Turbo Chipped up to mid 3’s to 0-60
Any of the hot hatches wouldn’t stand a chance against the SL 600’ bi turbo cars especially one that has been re mapped or chipped … not to mention the massive repair bills that accompany them. They go wrong constantly,
Big Big bills in the £ thousands Electric problems, Mechanical problems roof problems and suspension problems come like confetti …

I like talking cars. I’m a known petrol head I often go to local pubs with another known petrol head We often watch people move away to other tables when down the local pub’s They can stand ten minutes of data but after an hour it must get tedious for them … but not for my friend who is like a computer spewing out technical jargon on cars and motorbike … all good fun …

A few years ago in 1987 I owned a brand new Lamborghini Countach 5000s A local plumber asked me if I could pick his little lad up from school in it just for a treat. When I got to the school every teacher and pupil were stretched along the pavement to watch me arrive,
Of course I felt a bit proud of my car. At the time it was the worlds super car ( a picture dressing every lads wall), Today they are a bit ancient. But at any car show they command the biggest enthusiasm … They we’re a legend. But the downside ,Built badly, and a curse to park … etc But hey, what a memory …

Back in 1970-71 I shared a flat in London with a guy who worked for a vehicle recovery company. They had a few large panel vans equipped with winches and specialised in recovering exotic vehicles. Panel vans rather than flat-beds because companies like Lamborghini, Ferrari, Rolls-Royce etc, didn’t want the public seeing their broken-down cars on the back of a breakdown truck.

Anyway, one of the cars my mate regularly recovered was Rod Stewarts Lamborghini Miura which was forever breaking down around London and which he would recover back to Rod’s mansion in North London. Rod would sometimes get a lift back in the van and my mate got to be quite pally with him. A nice bloke by all accounts.

Well, that’s my Lamborghini story.

I have a story too, I went to Spain on Holliday… when I picked the keys to the villa up the lady asked where I lived. ‘Epping’ I said … She asked near Rod Stewart ?
Yes, I said ! She then told me that her boy friend was rod Stewart’s friend !
I told her that I owned a rolls Royce car hire company. ‘Could she get me some work’ ! Etc… she did, It started a chain of events… I used to drive Rod and his (then) girlfriend Kelly Emburg around in my silver spirit, We both owned identical Lamborghinis too… At the time, and would often park them near to to each other in Epping… quite Some sight to see ‘two together in those days’ (1987 ish) . They used to get quite a crowd hanging around, Mostly because the locals knew that one of them belonged to Rod Stewart …and were ‘eager to see him when he got back to drive off, (I never seemed to get the same attention) I still wonder why !,
the house in the Background in your photo looks like the “ WOODHOUSE” Epping , Where Rod lived until quite recently … now sold —He still lives in Essex ….and yes, he’s a nice guy. …. Ps. That Particular Lamborghini in your photo is in the many £ Million’s bracket today…

Paranoid or not, it seems some people like to get up your tailpipe. I have a great cure…i have a boot rack and i regularly drive with a wicker picnic basket on. That sends a certain message to tail gaters…plus i cant see them!

Enjoy every mile, Bob

Just before the first lockdown I was a passenger in the back of a minicab travelling along the M25 to Heathrow. He was driving well, keeping left, always in the correct lane, keeping his distance, and also muttering about the idiot tailgating him when there were empty lanes to overtake in.

We hit a stone or something and the car sort of lurched, and suddenly the tailgater had a starred windscreen and immediately pulled over to the hard shoulder.

With a big wide grin my Afghan driver commented something along the lines of “The will of Allah.”

Funnily enough I’ve just bought my MX5 (ND) and it’s happening quite a bit! I’ve had an NC previously and it never happened. Also I remember why I was so upset when I sold my last one. The last couple of weeks have been awesome :star_struck:

Maybe they just want some fun. Their cars are toys too and could look at a Mazda owner as someone to play with?

Sadly, there are now too many ( very ) hot hatches around for an MX5 to compete with. … even the one’s heated up …. I have However recently seen a MX5 NC with a shoe horned V8 under the bonnet, The best thing about it was that growl that only a V8 has , (Or maybe a sl 600 by-turbo) with a racing exhaust… They sound like. A 6 cylinder motorbike engine when On full song ( with an illegal racing box ) Lubbly Jubbly …. Eh
Oh. And welcome to the club It’s there for your pleasure so enjoy…
Best regards from Ray down in Essex…

It is nothing more than simple jealousy.
You are living their dream😎

You are right of course . That is why there is a spare engine and a supercharger in my workshop awaiting a winter build .
As Ray says V8 is nice and i have considered that as I have also looked at the Jag V6 but i am (in my old age ) considering the silly petrol prices and want to have something that I can happily use without thinking a day out in the sun is gonna cost me £70 quid in fuel. None of this is set in stone but at the mo a built and blown MX motor is the plan .

Speed and power is all in the mind Steve…
Yesterday My friend come around to take me to a lovely local pub He has a Audi A8. It’s like sitting in an Arm chair , wafting along in abject comfort ….
However…
To my surprise He said. “ Ray it’s a lovely day shall we take your MX5 “
I agreed I said yes it will help to charge my battery up …
we set off. ‘Hood down’ Elvis playing on the CD…. When we got to the pub. My friend said
“ RAY! PUT A “PRICE”/ TO THIS MATEY “ , “Lovely journey”. “Lovely pub”/ “and an MX5 with its hood down “; glistening in the car park”; He was right, You don’t need Limo’s nor power or the growing expense …All you need is peace of mind … The Sun and a bit of breeze in your hair … We do this three times a week now it’s priceless … just saying !

Nail on the head Raymond. Many years ago I had a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth. It was less exciting to drive at license loosing speeds than any MX-5 at the national limit.
