She might have been, I think I might have to interrogate her

I resemble that remark.

I think he found being knocked off his perch cathartic

Sorry Elaine, a bit late in responding - us Nawfurk buoys are gern’rally a bit like that… I have it on good authority from a very unreliable source that Deopham is pronounced “Deaf-Im” (with a silent H as in Him), and as for Garboldisham, I am none the wiser.
There are certain villages where the cautious are advised not to stop. In the comedy-drama Witchfinder General, shown on BBC a few months ago, the viewer might think “such practices died out centuries ago” as in the local sport of witch-dunking. Believe you me, some ancient traditions have by no means died out in certain parts of the county!!

When driving through rural France a few decades back, we occasionally came across the old “Priorité a droite” road signs. Sensible drivers of soft-tops are advised round here to obey the social convention of “Priorité a muck-spreader” unless they want to pay an emergency visit to the nearest car wash. :yum: :yum:

Thanks Laurie, - glad I can now have a stab at Deopham - as for Garboldisham - it makes a good exclamation when perplexed or confounded! One day I’ll find out how to say it how it gew in Norfolk.
As for Fen pronunciation ( in case yew git lost bor)- Wimpham is how you say Wimblington and Stunny, is Stonea, Wisbech is Wisbeach. The Nene is the Neen in the Fens - not the Nen as in Northamptonshire.
I could gew on - but I won’t!
Saw the Witchfinder good series. Mind you with Witcham, Coveney and Witchford all near Ely, you can’t be too careful!
Thanks too for muckspreader tip. Had a near miss in darkest Oxfordshire and had to slow to let the farmer make his pass before proceeding!

Maybe it was one of Ray’s Rollers I would see Rod’s lovely girlfriend pouring him into, outside the curry house as teenage me trudged the long way home from The Forest Gate to the North end of Epping!
