Lowering an NC

Hi peeps,

I have a 06 NC Sport that I’m looking at making look a little better. I’ve read that 30mm drop Eibachs are the way to go and they’re not out of my limited budget (not a lot of spare income I can argue spending on the car).

I’ll only be able to do this if I fit myself. I’ve not messed with suspension element myself before but can be handy when needed.

Do I need anything else? Bushes, other fittings? Will the alignment or anything else need doing after they’re changed?

I’m also interested in maybe fitting wheel spacers to pull them out a little bit in line with the arches. I’ve also read that getting the wrong ones can lead to rubbing. Are there specific ones that work with the 30mm eibachs? I have 205/45/17 ecsta ps71’s fitted and am happy with them so far.

Not really looking for anything other than for the car to look a little more like I and others feel it should. Nothing extreme. Nothing to improve handling. Nothing that breaks the bank.

One of my rear stock springs has already broken and been replaced and the other has an advisory due to rust, so am using that as an argument that it’s not money wasted on aesthetics alone.

Do I need a spring compressor? Axel stands? Or anything other than standard tools and a trolley jack?

Thanks in advance! Never been to any meets or groups so I’ve more been driven by seeing other NC’s and guessing that they’ve been lowered and widened like this. Feel free to show photos of your with the same mods, or recommend others.

I had MeisterR Sportives fitted by Roddisons last year.

They set up everything and my Sport Black is now like it’s on rails.

Money well spent in my opinion and their experience in this field, is excellent.

Yes you will need all of these, and lots of patience! Remember there is a bolt at the top of the strut in the wheel arch. Yes its advisable to get alignment afterwards as part of the removal of the front struts is easier if you undo the suspension arm bushes at the body on the upper arm.

Don’t forget to also only fully tighten the bushes when its on the ground or a flat surface to avoid bushes twisting, hand tight is fine until then.

Yeah, those would be nice, but alas, out of my budget. :money_mouth_face:

Thanks. Any recommendations on spring compressors? Do i need 2 or 4 axel stands?

Any recommendations on particular videos or other instructions to follow? Do the eibachs come with complete instructions?

Trying to swap springs on the cheap is a good way to lose limbs :+1:

Find a friendly garage, ask for a quote.

I managed with just two axel stands doing one side at a time. As your car is a few years old you will probably have some seriously difficult bolts to undo so I would use two at each wheel to be safe (doing one corner at a time so the rest of the car is on wheels). It goes without saying that penetrating oil at least 24 hours in advance on the bolts should hopefully help make the job much easier. If you haven’t had the droplinks replaced then this maybe also the time to do these as they can either snap or maybe be seized on when/if you try to undo them.

I can only recommend the best spring compressors you can find as they are the most important tool after the stands for your safety.

Eibachs do not come with any instructions and your likely to have to figure out which is front and back. From memory they have some markings in German to indicate.

Plenty of good videos online that are a help. But most importantly is, if you don’t feel 100% about using spring compressors, get someone who is confident/experienced enough. The springs can do some serious and sometimes permanent damage to the unwary.
