Ma5da Racing at Rockingham - Monday 30 August - *FREE TICKETS*

Thanks to Martin and everyone involved for a great day out and for organising the parade lap which was a  fantastic experience.Smile

Anne and Jim

To echo the comments of others, thank you Martin for a great day your time and effort are much appreciated.

I was behind Clair & Tony  in the sound appreciation chamber and can vouch for the loudness and quality of the exhaust note. I did notice that the marshall in the paddock looked less than impressed when I exited after my “run” Embarassed

Well the “parade lap” was a bit different to what I expected! Thought we would be lined up and led around the track at 30mph. What did happen was far more exciting Big Smile

For those of you that have not seen Ma5da racing before I have to say that they were the least exiting 4 races I’ve seen this season. The races at Cadwell and Mallory were much more incident packed and the field didn’t spread out so much. I think the longish start/finish straight and the fast turn 1 allowed the faster cars to pull away. That said they still provided the best racing of the day.

That’s us, just a few cars in front (I think) Great photos.

You might catch yourself in a couple of the videos if it was, I was concentrating on instructions to the driver and turning around was a bit difficult to get video. Can’t see a red car but you’ll spot yourself better than me.

Few more videos, this one from us just starting out on the track, taking it very easy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1B47TV3S6v0

And then after going through the tunnel to exit and heading back to the carpark, with suitably comedy music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDkVIH1Xa5g

Hi jack Big Smile your links to youtube come up with ‘The URL contained a malformed video ID.’

We’re new to the whole Mazda thing, but thought the races were brilliant - far better than many of the other races we’ve seen in recent months in other disciplines - plenty of overtaking, a bit of shunting here and there, and much much quicker than you’d expect from a pretty much standard 1.6 engine! Sounds like we need to get to some more races in the series. Even better was meeting a few of the drivers, who seemed to just be regular people, men, women, young, old, all just into having a good time and winning races. No egos, talking to lots of us, and happy to let us poke under the bonnet or inside the cars.

Jack.

No big surprise there!

You may need to copy and paste them into the browser to make them work, I’ve not really mastered getting videos to embed or link to them properly.

Jack.

Now it says I have to sign-in to you tube!

Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the races it’s just unusual for cars to clear off into the distance like Tom Roach did. You only have to look at the championship table to see how close the racing is. Also I preferred it when the racers were 20 minutes and not 15.

Signed in and now it says - This video is private. lol

Right, I think I’ve fixed it.

Cor, YouTube isn’t half difficult. I’m only 27 and it seems desperately “young” for me :frowning:

Links in earlier post should be working now.

Jack.

Thanks for a great day out at Rockingham to Martin, Robbie, Ma5da for the tickets  and everyone else involved in organising this for us all. As someone else said we thought the parade lap would be literally dawdling round at 30-40mph, but what with the exhaust note tunnel symphony and then being able to give it a little bit of welly, that was something special. Specially enjoyed going round the garages and seeing the 5’s on circuit. Also had a good viewing spot at Tarzan corner to see all the Mighty Minis going round on 3 wheels, looked like they were all err cocking a leg, and the saloons were v good as there seemed to be several races within a race, the 2 Clios, Seats, the V8 supercar and that solitary Nova “Pongo” at the back. Shame the general crowd wasnt there in huge numbers but look forward to better (more stable) weather and similar events in future.

Good to see Mazda owners again coming out in force on a race day.

I’ve posted up some onboard footage from the race on Youtube. Just Race 2 at the moment.

As well as the above 4 camera videos we also did a rear view only view which I mixed and created this split screen view which focuses mainly on the rear.
