Mazda Mx-5 Steering Feels like it's gliding left and right

Ah, yours are bigger tyres.
Mines were 195/50/15
Sorry for the confusion…

No problem, £160 for two tyres ouch

Google part numbers NF47-33-261B for the right hand or 271B for the left hand. You will see they are widely and cheaply available in the states. A mazda dealer here may be able to order them at a reasonable price it’s always worth checking. The parts diagram does suggest they are held on by the 4 bolts which secure the hub and bearing to the upright= not easy

Me again😂 i drove my car this morning and i could hear a gridding noise from the back left tyre/brakes. Anyone know what this could be?

Thanks

Just an opinion.
I reckon you are at a point where you should have your car inspected properly to assess what is what. In the main for your own safety and to make sure what is wrong and what is not.
A good independent garage would charge no more that £50 and money well spent, (due to your experience and lack of tools?).
Clearly a matter for your good self. :slightly_smiling_face::+1:

Agreed. Potentially you may be getting in above your depth and it would do no harm to get someone who knows about these cars to give you a quick once over. You may be pleased or begin to wonder what you may have let yourself in for, but at least you will know. Fingers crossed it’s just a new set of brake pads.

Hi, has anyone got any pros/cons of Ridex car parts. They are a lot cheaper than other brands, is there a reason for this? Are they any good?

Thanks

Morning Laurence! I’ve never heard of them TBH? But, their stuff does seem inexpensive. Got to be better than the old bits that currently reside on your brakes. Some folk swear by OEM genuine parts, others by (often) branded aftermarket stuff and then there’s people like me that are willing to give these ‘other’ brands a go. My take would be, give them a go, keep an eye on wear etc as pads can wear quickly (and produce tons of dust), discs can crack/warp etc I’ve previously had disc/pad sets from eBay sellers produced who knows where and not had issues so might be worth a go.
Add up the cost of RIDEX parts that you need, do the same with MINTEX/BREMBO/etc and see the costs. Something twice as expensive, will it be twice as good? it’s a road car, will be driven on normal roads, not on a race track. Do you need the absolute ‘best’ out there? Just my opinion, other folks may differ.
If you’re on a budget, then budget parts are fine IMO. How many folk take their car (not necessarily a MX5) into their local garage, get stuff done, parts replaced and have no idea which manufacturers parts have gone on the car?

Chinese???

They are a German based Company so be aware that an expensive order may incur import duty, vat and carrier surcharge. But good reviews on Trustpilot and other forums.

Hmm, beware of cheap pads. Even OEM can get it wrong.

eg 1. I hired a brand new Megane thirteen (?) years ago in France.
The EBA etc was so vicious it wanted to chuck you through the windscreen if the pedal was lightly touched WHEN COLD.
But when hot, come an emergency stop on the motorway from 130kph they had faded to nothing at all by 20kph. The hire company apologised for their oversight during acceptance testing (really?) from Renault, and sent out a mechanic to replace the pads.

eg 2. From new my 2016 Mazda3 was always a bit hesitant on the brakes compared with the NC. More recently it also developed a bit of fade despite new fluid at the last service.
Last week I took out the pads branded Mazda Ferodo and put in Brembos from ECP, and at long last now the car brakes as consistently and predictably as the NC.
Why did I wait five years? Because I’m a lazy idiot thinking ‘if it’s not broke don’t fix it’.

Bosch are a well know brand aren’t they?

Yep and Pagid, Ferrodo etc etc.
Just a tip, these come coated so the friction surfaces wear and leave the rest on and therefore don’t rust and look horrible.
Just done my daughter’s Polo all around with Pagid.
Check out carparts4less and don’t forget to use the code as well.

Brand yes but chances are they are not made in a Bosch factory but are rebadged from someone else like TMD friction who seem own most of the better known brands.

Still should be good quality right?

ECP and others use their " Brand names" as price points, for example good - Eicher. Better - Brembo, Best- Pagid
ECP don’t test the pads on all vehicles and probably Bosh don’t either. They will do the job but may be noisy and produce a lot of dust. Pays your money and takes your choice, bit like oil and tyres.

Exactly. Now you see how they work but price is not necessarily the same as value. As I said its a pricing decision what they believe a product will sell for, but its your money and your decision at the end of the day.

My local independent won’t even fit the ECP own brand brake parts. They say the fit can be approximate and when it leads to problems the customer often wants to blame them. If the customer wants to provide the parts, they are happy with manufacturer parts but if it’s from ECP and not a known brand (known includes Pagid and Textar, which they have fitted for me) they don’t want to know. They will fit pattern parts from the motor factor they use but I don’t like not knowing what’s on there.

I think Textar is the top line product from TMD. The ND is still on the original pads and discs at 18,000 miles and the brakes feel great, presumably because the car is relatively light and the brakes are correctly specified. When the time comes I’ll stick with Mazda or e.g. Pagid/Textar/Bosch.

The original purpose of brands was to assure known quality. Sadly they are commonly licensed to or bought by those who use them to make products from other sources more appealing. An example is Crosland filters- maybe they are OK, maybe not, but Crosland they ain’t.
