I joined the MX-5 Owners Club earlier this year. Soon after joining, I attended the annual rally in and met some really nice like minded people. It was great chatting to people about their experiences, and the fun we all get being owners of the best selling roadster of all time.
In the absence of an area coordinator for Western, I want to reach out to any members who may like to meet up sometime in the New Year. Ideally looking to meet within a 30 mile radius of Bath. But, will consider further afield if necessary. Be great to hear from anyone with the view of an MX-5 get together.
Hi there, and Happy Xmas! Similar to you, I only joined this year as well, after buying my first ever MX-5. I live near Radstock, so your suggestion sounds good to me! Would love to meet up with other local owners as that was one of the main reasons for joining the Owners Club.
Hi All. Merry Christmas to you. Sounds like there are many ‘lost Westerners’ around. Like yourselves I joined in June24 after buying my first MX-5. We definitely wanted to get involved in the club scene. Seeing that there was no Western area coordinator or meetings we joined the South West group that meet up on Halton Hill ,Exeter, monthly. We live just outside Bridgwater so about an hours drive down the M5. We were a bit nervous when we turned up for our first meet but wow, how surprised we were. What an amazing bunch of people. They were very friendly and made us most welcome. We’ve been to most meetings since where they get 20 to 25 cars turn up on a Sunday morning. Breakfast and then a drive somewhere. Exactly the sort of thing we were looking for from a club. We’ve since been to the national rally as well. We stayed for a few days and made a weekend of it.
We’re probably be a bit further south than some of you so Exeter is not so bad for us, but we would definitely be up for some sort of a meet the other way depending on what time and if we’re available. We don’t mind travelling up to an hour maybe if we could find somewhere to suit all of us. Call out to anyone else who maybe western area and who knows we might be able to get something going.
I’ll be sending out a recruitment email in early 2026. If you have a social meet planned please email me on acl (at) mx5oc (dot) co (dot) uk and I’ll send an email and put it on the Western area calendar so that you get better advertisement. Hopefully someone will come forward soon.
And good wishes to you too, and thank you for responding. Not sure how to get things going, so maybe wait and see if we get few more responses. You are really close, so that is encouraging and hope to meet you regardless at some point.
I am happy to keep tabs on who is responding and discuss what, where and when a bit further down the road, so to speak.
And good wishes to you too and thank you for responding. That sounds a good move you did there. Exeter from here is a good two hours away (without hold ups), so could be a one-off for me now and again to pop down that way.
I’m going to see how the response goes and then aim to agree a what, where and when meet-up.
Very interesting for me. Living in Stroud Gloucestershire puts me in the South Midlands group, I have been on some great runs with great folk but the meet starts points are generally a good couple of hours from me. Working regular 6 day weeks makes me quite time poor, so keen to find more activities closer to home.
I’m aware of three or four other members who are in Shepton Mallet, Wells, and Warminster areas, so there are a fair number of us in fairly close proximity to each other, and these members have also posted they they would be keen to meet up too, Hopefully they’ll get to see your thread and post as well.
Thanks, I didn’t know that. Without there currently being an events organiser for our area, would you know if these meetings still take place? I know the Cross Hands well as I used to live in North Yate, but it’s about an hour from where I currently live.
Well, that is useful to know, thank you. Can you or any other Western Members confirm this still happens and people are still meeting up at the Cross Hands? And if so, what time etc.
I used to attend meetings at the Cross Hands when I was in the Western Area, SFAIK these meetings stopped a couple of years ago but I am sure they would be amenable to them starting again. There is plenty of space for parking and the group used a room at the venue for their meetings. Often members would eat there before the meetings began. There was a second venue the group also used in Clevedon. I’ll see if I can find the name of it in my old e-mails. Hope that helps.
The Cross Hands venue is still used, as far as know there is a meeting at 7:30 pm, they tend to be more of a social catch up. If it changes I’ll post it on here.
