Off to buy a dash cam today with hard wire kit. Looking to hard wire instead of using cigarette lighter power. Has anyone done similar and if so any advice would be welcome with regard to best place to take power from, wire routing etc. Thanks in advance.
Get a piggy back fuse and run it up from the passenger side fuse box, behind the trim all the way up to near the mirror. That’s how mine is set up.
The Garmin Mini is a good one for the MX5. Hard wired too.
I recommend also wiring the hardwire kit into the passenger side fuse board.
When buying the hardwire kit get a decent known brand, I had the Next base cam so I bought their hardwire kit. I bought a cheapo ebay kit and found it interfered with the radios dab signal, the Next base kit is ok.
Agreed, these have been good on three different recent installs.
However, I do also add extra ferrites, just in case…
Thank you all, excellent replies and helped me a lot. Cheers all.
Yes got the ferrites too thanks to your help Richard
I also changed the DAB aerial (windscreen job) mainly because of the different connection needed for the new head unit.
The cheapo dash cam hardwire kit is now installed in my daily driver with a second Nextbase cam. No such interference in there with anything but that’s got a factory fitted DAB/navigation unit.
So worth knowing if you have an aftermarket head unit in you 5 with DAB.
