Mk4 mods

Hi guys and girls I thought idd start this off Iā€™m just woundering what mods owners have done to the mk4 cars Wheels Suspension Exhaust or Turbo fitted so on as I would love to know whatā€™s been done to these new models and if owners are happy with the mods done I own an Artic Edition and Iā€™m thinking of stainless exhaust system as I had a cobra on my last mk3 model it was a tad loud but great soundĀ

Mazda luxury mats.

Think thatā€™s itā€¦Ā

What is involved in the horn replacement? I hate the girly standard one but donā€™t want to have to start cutting things etc to replace!  Or are you saying donā€™t bother doing it.

I picked the wrong horn, another type will be better.

Ideally you need the car in the air, or the front right corner elevated, front offside wheel removed, undercovers in this area and under the front loosened for access, not difficult.Ā

Two horns, held in place by an 8 or 10mm spanner, depending on the horn earthing type you may need an earth wire from the earth spade connector to the mounting bolt, easy.

I fitted a Nautilus C. Marine Horn MX5Parts S16791 to my Sport Tech Recaro, brilliant horn.

Being a ā€œwaterproofā€ marine horn should, hopefully, withstand the rigours of the UK climate.

To list a few mk4 mods

big brake kit

exhaust manifold, centre section, back box

re map

suspension

wheels/tyres

gear box upgradeĀ

A reply from someone who prefers to keep the car standardā€¦

I donā€™t have any urge to modify the car as such - so I wonā€™t be doing any lowering, or fitting of noisy exhaust, loud horns etc but I enjoy seeing what others have done to their cars (usually).

First ā€œmodā€ was some rust protection from The MX5 Restorer.  Second is a Brodit phone mount and mounting plate.

Iā€™ll probably buy an acrylic wind deflector and a cubby shelf from here - https://store.mx5things.com/ .  And I have nets for behind the seats and on the passenger side of the gearbox, in an attempt to compensate for the shortage of places to stow odds and ends.

Next on the list is a jack - even without a spare wheel, it may well prove useful and there is a place to stow it.

I have a Racing Beat Power Pulse exhaust on my 2.0 - I wouldnā€™t recommend it as it doesnā€™t provide much difference over stock for the money.

Basically Iā€™m happy with the car as it came. The only ā€œmodsā€ Iā€™ve done are purely functional :- 1) Zunsport half grille to keep road shrapnel out of the radiator.Ā  2) Sill protector plates to stop me kicking lumps out of the plastic trim as I enter or exit.Ā  3) Change OEM aerial to a ā€œStubbyā€ so I donā€™t poke an eye out.Ā  4) Mats, fabric for summer, rubber for winter, cheaper and easier to replace than the carpet.

Where did you get the rubber mats and are they a good fit.

I got them from MX5 Parts in May 2016.  5mm rubber mat set for Mk.4 RHD. Part No.FM24, price Ā£21.85 inc. vat.  Perfect fit, attach to floor anchor points so donā€™t slip.

PS: Just checked their website, still listed at the same price.

I have done these mods to my Arctic, but all can be put back to normal very easily

Was the new wind deflector easy to fit?

Very easy.
The side pieces adjust to fit between the hoops to give a good tight fit.

Eibach lowering kit fitted by Mazda
BBR GT back box in readiness for BBR Super 190 to be fitted in near future.
Zunsport half grill in black
Sill protectors
Wind deflector with Velcro fitting, originally fitted to my 3.75 but also fits the MK4
Rubber mats and like others storage netā€™s behind seats

Snowman what sort of money are we talking.

BBR Supersports silencer - loud but not boomy

Dealer fit Eibach springs - less body roll, lowered for appearance

Pipercross panel filter - ease of maintenance

Red anodised oil cap - Ā£15 from China!

IL Motorsports wheel spacers - 15mm front, 20mm rear - spaced for appearance mainly

IL Motorsports black anodised lug nut set - improves looks and gets rid of ugly lock nut

ā€˜The Stubbyā€™ ariel - health & saftey!

Voodoo aluminium grear knob - nice, but cold in winter

Mazda sill plates - nice but scuff easily, so sort of defeats the purpose

Mazda alloy pedal kit - dealer fit free

Mazda boot liner - keeps boot clean

Matt black sun strip - helps me see in the sun (not required that often)!

Skyactiv debadged - fugly

IL Motorsport smoked side repeaters - bored one day

Ā

I did have the infotainment system hacked with several upgrades, speedometer etc, but the dealer went and downloaded the lastest software version and knackered it all! Great update from Mazda Tweeks.

Cheers ā€¦

Simon.

On mine, a half grill (black)

Sill kick plates

an ITG free flow air filter

Cant remember what i paid for all 3 items, but that will be on the site.

All items where packaged together, and only paid 1 lot of postage to the seller.

Paid another Ā£24 in postage and handling costs to the firm delivering the parcel.

Hope that helps
