Mk4 mods

Well I had a shorty arial from MX5parts fitted for two whole days and I have swapped back. I am a BBC6 music fan and the reception was noticeably worse with the short arial to the point where there were sections of my normal commute where I lost the station completely. Swapped back to the long stock arial and normal service was resumed. I recall someone posting on here that the visible arial was for FM and the DAB one was elsewhere in the car. I suspect that isn’t true based on my experience.  Every day is a school day!

Why would people think that Mazda would not fit the optimum aerial for the car and most markets/areas/frequency bands?

A fair point. Hasn’t stopped lots of people fitting different springs/exhaust etc. etc. Interesting that others have found the shorty arial OK but its nowhere near as good on mine

I’ll just put these pictures here:

BBR Supersports silencer - loud but not boomy

Dealer fit Eibach springs - less body roll, lowered for appearance

Pipercross panel filter - ease of maintenance

Red anodised oil cap - £15 from China!

IL Motorsports wheel spacers - 15mm front, 20mm rear - spaced for appearance mainly

IL Motorsports black anodised lug nut set - improves looks and gets rid of ugly lock nut

‘The Stubby’ ariel - health & saftey!

Voodoo aluminium grear knob - nice, but cold in winter

Mazda sill plates - nice but scuff easily, so sort of defeats the purpose

Mazda alloy pedal kit - dealer fit free

Mazda boot liner - keeps boot clean

Matt black sun strip - helps me see in the sun (not required that often)!

Skyactiv debadged - fugly

IL Motorsport smoked side repeaters - bored one day

I did have the infotainment system hacked with several upgrades, speedometer etc, but the dealer went and downloaded the lastest software version and knackered it all! Great update from Mazda Tweeks.

Cheers …

Simon.

I’m also a 6 Music fan Bertie, but I haven’t had any problem at all with reception and I have a stubby. Might vary according to area I suppose - I’m based in the Midlands but have been to the South East and North East recently and haven’t detected any reduction in reception quality.

I have fitted different springs but I don’t think that is quite the same. You know what you are getting (in the case of lowered springs, better handling/less roll at the expense of a slightly harder ride). In the case of an aerial, I think most people would find it hard to understand the in-depth specifications for aerials and how these relate to performance at different frequencies and in different signal strengths etc.

Wow! I thought that the finish on you car looks fabulous. Then I noticed your company details! Same colour combination as mine but much shinier. How does the exhaust sound? Looks very nice.

Ceramic white 2.0 sport nav, mods so far:

Zunsport half grille, 215/45/17 Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 all round, Genuine Mazda lowering kit, BBR light adjuster, Seats and mirror caps from the Sport Recaro, Carplay (garbage, waste of time), Red oil cap, remap to 186bhp. Did have Delrin door bushings, 10mm spacers and a stubby aerial but in all cases they made the car worse.

To do: rear Mazda boot spoiler, change of exhaust tips.

When you say “in all cases they made the car worse”, a you referring to all your mods, or just the Delrin bushes, 10mm spacers and stubby aerial?  Sorry, but I’m just a bit .

Just the Delrin bushes, 10mm spacers and stubby aerial is spot on. The bushes just made the doors rattle, the spacers just made the back feel odd (can’t describe it better than that) and the stubby aerial killed reception in areas where i normally don’t have a problem.

Never modded a car and apart from MX5 parts rubber mats for winter that’s where I am at! However when my car is 3 year old I am seriously considering the BBR Super 190 package! Remap to 190 full SS exhaust and cold air intake. Was hoping someone on here would have had it done so I could seek feedback!?

Nice reading about all your mods and tweeks

I’ve had the BBR Super 200 and full exhaust system fitted. Expensive but worth it in my opinion.

I am very tempted with the super 200. What impact has it had on your insurance? Ive got motorbikes and is a bit of a pain getting quotes if you modify too much

No problems with insurance!

Previous owner had fitted the following

Mazda boot spoiler

Mazda side skirts

Mazda sill protectors

Stainless exhaust tips (on original back box)

Clear Japanese market reflectors

In my ownership I’ve fitted the following

Zunsport full black grille

One of my own reversing camera kits. Cheaper than any of the other integrated kits on the market. (Shameless plug!)
