Very recently saw Ralph McTell in the MAC in Belfast……bit of a hero in this part of the world, as Ralph played Belfast when NO-ONE played Belfast, for obvious reasons….

He first played here in 1969, and many of the places have simply gone…… like the Grosvenor Hall- now a car-park…… gladly the Ulster Hall remains, and the acoustics there are (still) fantastic.

The old Gibson J45 he’s played for 60 years still travels with him, and he does now bring one of his “signature model” Martins - one of 4 built by Martin for him whilst Gibson simply said “Ralph who??” ( the Martin, interestingly, looks very like the old J45, oddly enough)

Known for his “hit”…… which played solo acoustic still makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up……. there is also a plethora of finger-style blues/ragtime gleaned from the great blues-men such as the Rev. Gary Davis, Robert Johnston …….

Ralph turns 80 in 2024, currently on a solo tour of Australia & New Zealand and is a true “live” artist. The stories, the warmth and the “craic” along with the finger-style guitar make for a great evening.

We were lucky enough to bump into him as we left the theatre, and I simply said:
“welcome home” as we shook hands.
Not bad for a boy from the “Croydon-delta”.

Candy Dulfer - Lily Was Here (Baloise Session 2015)

Today I have mostly been listening to Christmas Carols and Folksongs
as I wrapped presents and decorated the house. :christmas_tree: :santa: :gift:

Happy Christmas All

Going through more old CDs I played again Somebody to Love on this collection. It still has a Christmas 1996 sticker on the case.

The edge and rage in Grace Slick’s performance brought back vivid memories of the widespread anger amongst us youngsters at that pointless war going on in Asia at the time, and I was also reminded of everyone else’s even greater worries about the big countries also getting involved to end it all “mutually.”

Nothing seems to have changed…

Samara Joy CD Linger Awhile.
This short live version of Can’t get out of this mood is not as good as the longer more mellow CD version.

The Shamen “Move Any Mountain” being played on R2 reminding me this is middle aged music now (anyone who listened to it the first time is now in their late 50s). It reminded me of this music video with a before they were famous moment. If you recognise who it is (don’t look at the comments), you can’t unsee it.
