Gun - Word Up
Back in the day the word from the Thompson Twins was not to play with electricity, still wouldn’t dream of it
Ever since I first listend to Desmond Decker, in the basement of my first boarding school which was equiped with a record player and served as the smokers den, I have loved a bit of reggae. This King Jammy ditty, named after a country I was privileged to visit 3 times a year for a decade, has always been a favourite morning ear worm :- Zambia - YouTube
On my drive home today I was listening to this… The Beach Boys backed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, so nice to hear this with the oomph of an orchestra… Some proper roof down summer songs… California Girls, Wouldn’t It Be Nice and Fun,Fun,Fun… Cracking songs!
Roof down with this
Been a while since I spent an entire evening listening to noodle meister Frank Vincent Zappa, youtube has thrown up some of his solo’s the first I have not heard before…
the the second are solo’s taken from his gigs at the Roxy in #73 …
Recentey I started spending about 4 hours a day late after noon to early evening in the kitchen every other week, cooking a week ahead for two to cover my weeks on call, this time has passed in a blur of baroque, tonight we have mesmerising and enchanting Vivaldi :- The Best of Vivaldi - YouTube
I’ve been revisiting this.
For eight years it was my good fortune to fly home from school in Surrey to Zambia where Dad was employed as a civil engineer on the copper mines. Much of my time there was spent listening to a little blue plastic transistor radio I was given as a 10th birthday present. There was quite a local music scene covering a spectrum from traditional tribal to more contempoarary Zam Rock artists like WITCH, The Negozi Family. Peace and many more. WITCH stands for We Intend To Cause Havoc, which they did by blending all sorts of influences many of which were familiar to me from the UK, here is one of there hits ‘Havoc’ :- Havoc - YouTube
Back to the chopping board, stuffed peppers, must be time for some more Bach :- Bach to the Future: the Timeless Genius of Johann Sebastian Bach - YouTube
Been a while since I queued this up on a record deck first thing in the morning :- Pink Floyd - Time (2011 Remastered) - YouTube
Just downloaded the official audio feed from Springsteen’s Birmingham gig on Friday. Fabulous night.
Epic music to be doing the washing up with after another long not entirely unpleasurable day :- The Best of Antonio Vivaldi - Four Seasons | Musical genius of the 18th century - YouTube
Sad to learn that Killing Joke guitarist Geordie Walker is no longer with us. Their first album Killing Joke is easily inside my top 10 most played albums and S036 is easily inside my top 10 most played tracks, if for no other reason than the track is on a compilation CD I made that has been permanently inside Madges six cd CD player for the last five years.
Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings Anyway the wind Blows CD.
It’s all good jazz, but this track Walking One and Only is one of my favourites. Listen to Dave Hartley’s piano break in the second half. His magic touch is scattered through the CD.
The best version of this second album (which I bought new) was until recently only available on vinyl, and I’m listening to it right now. Check the track listing and play times!
I can here some of those tracks just reading the titles, starting to wonder if time really is still on my side
The Very Best of The Doors.
