Music and Song - What are you listening to right now?

Sounds a bit Marillion? Interesting. Have you heard this early (ish) Genesis track? Got a great musical break in the centre (5 mins and 25 second in…)…

Tommy Emmanuel, a genius guitar player I first saw in 2001 live as support act at Holme Lacy for Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings.
At first sight, one man and one acoustic guitar, everyone is thinking when’s Bill coming on.
After twenty minutes of Tommy we all just wanted more of him.

I’m listening to the Accomplice One CD, here’s track 8 with Mark Knopfler

And this snippet from Melbourne shows how and why he does it.

Very interesting. I’ve been a massive Phil Collins fan since I was kid but strangely never listened much to Genesis. Perhaps I should re-visit them  This piece and the way it kinda shifts in and out of styles with various different interludes, reminds me of one he used to do called ‘The West Side’

And yes, you’re right about Avantasia, he does have a bit of a Marillion-esque vibe. Some of his music has more of a Meat Loaf feel. I describe him as ‘metal for optimists’

Flamingo - Earl Bostic (I bet that one has most of you thinking “what?”)

Eugene Earl Bostic to give him his full name Roger! :+1:

Very true Barrie, but back in the days when his records (shellac and vinyl) came out he was only called “Earl Bostic”, it’s only when people look up his bibliography that “Eugene” becomes known! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I didn’t know that Roger, just knew his ‘full’ name as said. Wasn’t trying to be clever :unamused:

Sorry Barrie! :innocent: I didn’t mean it to sound “bossy”, I was just saying that 'cos that’s what it says on my records. I guess it’s the same sort of thing as “Count Basie” and “Duke Ellington”, a lot of black American jazz musicians of that era had “royal” names!
PS: I didn’t know that his name was “Eugene” until you said as there’s no mention of it on any of the sleeve notes on my EP’s/LP’s! :astonished:

Just re-purchased Under a Blood Red Sky by U2 - not a massive fan of the band, but what a cracking live album :sunglasses:

Hi Roger, it’s just one of those things I guess? I don’t have much knowledge in music (or most other things TBH) but some things stick in your mind, hopefully, one day, in a pub quiz, it might be a lifesaver! Another one, is which animal has the most teeth? Mrs B and I were once on a cruise with friends, we joined in a pre dinner trivia quiz and that question popped up? Even my own party doubted my wisdom with my answer, I was the only one to get it out of hundreds participating! It’s a snail (of all things!):rofl::rofl: We didn’t actually win the quiz but I did get a special mention for that correct answer!

I found this band on YouTube the other day and we listened to one of there albums while travelling to and from the Lake District for a weeks holiday last week. This track was what got me to stream the album, so if you like a bit of rockabilly then check this band out, they are called Relax Trio and they come from that well known epicentre of Rock and Roll, Finland!!
