Hi everyone!
I have a 2017 MX-5 RF and today, i lowered the driver’s window with no noise or problems. However, when i raised it there was an awful noise, like grinding glass!
Window did not close fully, so I planned to go to my local garage on Monday because that’s when the best mechanic is back on duty!.
Unfortunately, the window slid down and disappeared into to door! The car is protected from rain and is under cover!
Anyone else have this problem? Should I ask my mechanic to check the passenger window too? Any advice appreciated!

I’d guess the window regulator has fooked itself. I’ve had to replace both sides on my daily driver, about 18 months apart tho’. They’re not really parts that you can check, they just tend to let go.
Thanks Davy_F!
I guess my mechanic will have to order parts…Hope that doesn’t take too long! Can’t be without my MX-5!

Mine just failed like that, regulator cable broke !,fortunately the parts arnt that expensive
Thanks Stephen!
I think I can see the part on MX5parts for £40.80!
My mechanic will get it sorted! He painted my wheels, calipers, badges and added a spoiler for me! Looking very good now!

My Non Specialist Mechanic Has Locked the Drivers Side Window In The ‘Up’ Position and the Passenger Side Still Works
BUT THIS IS HAPPENING ON a 2017 Model
Whats Going On Here

I’m sure your mechanic will sort it. Every manufacturer uses a gimcrack arrangement of string and pulleys, so Mazda electric windows no worse than others. I’ve redone the windows on two Golfs and had to get the local guy to sort a fiesta. It’s annoying but not too expensive.
TBH back in the day I never had to repair wind-up windows, despite the galloping tin worm in whichever (now called a classic) car I had at the time.

The cables fray and break. Mine was replaced on the driver’s side under warranty. Quite a common problem.
Every time you open the door the window drops around half an inch. Close the door and it goes back up.
On mine the fraying was in the section of cable that goes over a nylon pulley at the top of the door. I think it is the frequent movement and twisting that causes it to weaken and break. I was lucky as the frayed and broken strands were rubbing against the glass making a strange sound so I had it sorted then before the whole cable snapped.

Hi everyone!
The glass has dropped down into the door. Unpredictable for showers this weekend so my MX-5 will just have to stay undercover for a few days,
I think this is the part but my mechanic can sort that out,

Peugeot window regs sometimes actually manage to just get out of warranty before they fail , but not often as they are garbage I’ve changed hundreds literally ! . Hope Mazda ain’t going down the same route

If it just the wire, you can get universal stainless steel wire replacements.
Worth a go if you can’t get a complete unit.
Would see no point in fitting another OEM one due to being rubbish.
Just an opinion.
Thanks!
Local Mazda dealer! None in the UK and Europe!
Do you have a link for a replacement cable?
Ofiaich!
I obviously don’t know what your actual mechanism looks like. But seems to be the 2 wire type as in the link below.
But look at item number 152217139007 on eBay. Have a chat with the seller and see where it takes you.
Just a quick search gives a few others on Google.

When mine broke a few week’s ago non in stock at mx5 parts, I was told by the dealer “out of stock”, said Mazda’s inventory system is not always up to date!!
I ordered via the dealer and it turned up five days later!
