Yes, by the book it will. Depends if you smile nicely at the MOT tester I suppose.
Would almost 100% guarantee that they will fail, my rear numbers on an import size plate were on one line and it was a technical fail as it should be spaced over 2 lines. He passed it but on the understanding I would replace the plate. If the plate is not showing the manufacturer and the BS number, it will fail as well (i.e. a “show plate” or similar).
Not the case.
May not be an MOT requirement, but . . . .All number plates must conform with the British Standard. By law, each number plate must be marked with the following information: The British Standard number (currently BS AU 145d) The name or trade mark of the manufacturer or component supplier. Something, then, the Police may take an interest in.
To put this into some context. Say I bought a UK specification MX-5 new, from a UK Mazda dealer in 1994. The car still has the original supplied plates on it, which may or may not carry those markings, in a case that it doesn’t, I’m obliged to change those plates to ones which display those markings. Yes?
No, but I was responding to a personalised plate with incorrect spacing, as were you.
I believe the regulations apply to any plate put on a car on or after (specific date) regardless of the age of the car.
Does M1 ATA exist?
Yes, current on a blue Mazda2. Next MOT due Nov '21
Interesting that it’s on a Mazda. Ex MX-5 owner who needed a different type of vehicle I wonder or got it because it means something else to them.
And MX 5 is on a ten year old Passat.
Saw this very car several years ago on a MX5 runout! Remember those? Caused quite a stir, surrounded by MX5’s in a tea room car park, Derby way.

If you swap the plate before the MOT it will not appear in your MOT record. Which means if you get stopped, you can always say you have only just put them on and didn’t know it was wrong, once it is on the record they can see you have already been officially informed that it is not correct.
Thanks both for your advice - looks like I need MOT plates and driving ones !
Sounds like a plan!
Got my v5 document in the post today for my ND sport Recaro I purchased couple of weeks ago. So finally able to switch the registration to the new one I purchased. You could read it as Great MX5 !
Also got custom plates from Four Dot with red/grey/black Union Jack design on the rear.
Looks good… and nothing like getting your own plates on…!
A post was split to a new topic: Unauth Sale
I don’t get that one, sorry.
