MXOC web site not secure !

I am getting new messages saying this site is not secure as your security expired yesterday!

Not have issues with any other sites.

Is this a know problem or unique to me??

John

Same here; the Certificate has expired…

Yes here too on my Firefox browser. I see in the top left of the address bar (padlock symbol) there is a warning triangle too???

Tech Help has been contacted

initially it was google Chrome gave message, then IE, but IE doesn’t give message now.

Firefox let me straight in.

All O’k now Iain, was it my text to you that was the alert?

Thanks John, got the ball rolling earlier.

Having an expired certificate does not make a web site insecure.

Well done all.

Still strange that Goggle Chrome now gives a privacy error warning.

IE doesn’t.

Is there anything else that can or should be done MXOC end??.

John

Just checked via Google Chrome, and I have no problem…

Everything is OK now with my Google Chrome browser…

No error messages

Folks, its all well in hand. I’ve not seen any messages at all on IE or Chrome, but I am aware these could occur randomly for a bit while the cogs turn behind the scenes.

Just to let you know that at 7.35pm I’m still getting a warning on Google Chrome, my usual search engine but not others.

Getting an error on Firefox with Win 8.1

I am still getting an error on Chrome.

I am still getting the Certificate Error on IE

and in MS Edge:

?

There is a problem with this website’s security certificate

We recommend that you close this webpage and do not continue to this website.

The security certificate for this site doesn’t match the site’s web address and may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.

This Message on FireFox:

This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.mx5oc.co.uk, but we can’t confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site’s identity can’t be verified. What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn’t continue.

I am still getting security warning on my computer but not on my laptop ???

Still happening to me at 22:33 on 24/11/2015, Firefox tells me the certificate has expired and the site is not to be trusted.

“If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn’t continue.”

So I won’t after this post!!

Ok, before you all panic let me try to explain what is actually going on here. That way you can all make an informed decision.

What is a site security certificate?

In order to assure everyone that the MX5OC site is what is says it is and is operating on the server we own. We apply to the certification authority for a site security certificate.

This certificate is a bit like a ‘tax disk’ for the site. We have to prove our identity to the authority to get one. It cannot be transferred to another site as it has all our details on it.

By ‘displaying’ this ‘tax disk’ to search engines they then verify that we are who we say we are and they make no fuss.

This year, we’ve made a little boo-boo and we’ve let the tax run out on the site! Oooops!

This means that the search engines look at our tax disk and say “well thats not valid. this site might be trying to pull a fast one”. Of course you know we are not, we just forgot

to renew our site security certificate.

A yearly certificate only costs a few tens of pounds so we have, of course, sent off the application ASAP! But as you know with Tax Disks even though you have paid for

the tax, it can take up to seven days to arrive.

If you still feel a bit wobbly about using the site there is an alternative. In order to keep you safe simply furnish yourself with one of these:

Personal Website Security Apparatus

Which will ensure your safety when browsing the site

Hope that sets some minds at ease. It all sounds much much worse than it really is, I promise.
