My 04 SVT - Rolling repairs & rustoration

I know, i am dying to get out and about, especially with all the lovely weather lately.
I took it to a bodyshop that was recommended to me, and he basically said all the primer i had applied had to come back off, hence the cost. So bit the bullet and said crack on, lol. Had enough of arsing about with it (plus the lack of anywhere indoors to do it again).

More updates - Should have it back by Tuesday
Then reassemble everything, arch liners, roof (important bit), replacement door cards and speakers, wind blocker, mud flaps etc before hopefully getting an MOT slot Wednesday afternoon

Looking good. That’s some flip on those wheels!

Looks fantastic! Which body shop did you use, and who did the wheels?

The guy who did the paint is local to me (D T Body Repairs in Kingstone, Herefordshire), he was recommended by another guy who is retiring (who was also a top notch painter). I am blown away by the finish.
The wheels were done by another local guy who refurbs and powdercoats wheels for a living. Thw powder used was a special order from the state’s, wasn’t cheap at £90 per wheel. As far as i know they are probably the only set of MX5 wheels in the UK done with this finish.

End result looks great!

What primer did you use (out of curiosity)?

How much did the respray end up costing (if you’re prepared to share)? (PM if you prefer, but I can understand if you’d rather not say!)

The primer i was advised to use (by the guy who was originally going to do the paint) was lechler green ti. They bodyshop that actually did the work said they never use it as it is known for really bad shrink back.
The cost to have both sides redone (stripped back, re filled, prepped and painted) was ÂŁ2400 inc the vat. Well worth it in my opinion as the finish is stunning.

Sounds like a right bargain to me!:+1:

That sounds like a great price.
Thanks for sharing that.

Taken by the photographer on the way into the National Rally - wish i had cleaned it now though

Is that a CB aerial?

It is - only recently added. I used to use one many years ago before mobile phones took over - roughly 1993 until around 2001.

It’s surprising how many are starting to use them again - and how many still do from the “old days” - probably because they can’t be monitored or tracked

Ahh that brings back memories of going out “mobile” in my MK3 Cortina with my CB buddies haha…brilliant times!

Oh, yes. Friday and Saturday nights on a hill, lol.

The eyeballs were a blast as well, especially the Somerset wallies. I remember seeing the wurzels at one of theirs.

Had a Google and apparently AM is now legal (wasn’t in my day), no more licenses, and CB is making a come back. Blimey!

Yep, the FM channels along with “mid band” aka the euro FM is also now fully legal. Plenty of compact sets that fit perfectly in a 5, along with some single din sized ones as well. They are perfect for group drives out, and of course don’t fall under the “not to be used when driving” regs as emergency services use hand held radios as well.

Some very discreet antennas available now as well. There were a few at the rally with cb aerials attached.
