Nb front chassisrail repair

Would a clarke 106 mig welder, max amps of 100 be sufficient enough to weld my chassis rail as the repair piece I have is 2mm thick and the welder can welde upto 4mm thick I had the repair piece from theMx5Restorer down Eastbourne.

Note I’m also looking at maybe getting the clarke 145 instead.

I used a 120Amp to do mine and it did a fine job.
You may need a higher rated circuit as initially I ran mine through a 13amp wall socket and occasionally it tripped out.
I suspect a 32amp would be sufficient.

I purchased mine at the Bristol Show some years ago and the threaded inserts looked as if they were pressed and riveted in i do not remember the name of the company that supplied them but if my description is similar to yours i strongly advise you to put a spot of weld on them.
I had occasion to remove the Anti Roll Bar last year and 3 of them turned causing me a great deal of grief.

Now, that is good advice for anyone contemplating this work. :+1:

Yes it is the pressed in threads are they aluminium I can’t tell from looking at it.

Mine were steel but if you have any doubts try a file on one but it is most unlikely that aluminium would be used.
Mine came in 2 parts for each side do the inside ones first and then you can see exactly what you need to cut out to weld in the outer one.
