NC EGR Valve - sourcing a replacement

Hi,

i am having trouble sourcing an EGR valve for a mk 3, anybody have any ideas? I did read somewhere that a mondeo or mazda 6 would work?

Cheers

Are you saying the Mazda dealer cannot obtain them or the cheaper vendors do not stock them or they are having problems getting them.

I see Blueprint do not list them and none were available on a quick search on the after market.

A few secondhand on ebay but that is a risk and I believe they are time consuming to fit.

So that suggest a Mazda Dealer and I guess say £200.

Previous post.

Yes I have tried a few parts dealers with no luck, and waitng for a response from a main dealer, I remember reading a thread possibly on here about using one from a different vehicle as mentioned previously. I am interested in seeing if anyone had gone down this route and to what degree of sucess. FYI it am getting the PO304 fault code.

So the mechanical part of the valve could be fine but the electrical part ha failed, I had that on a friends 2009 Mk3.5. We just used a code reader to switch of the light when it came on ones a month.

It comes back everytime i turn the MiL light off, so thought it was time to fix it.

Yes agreed as it is a pain sseing that light. As I said the one I looked at would stay off for a month, bad luck on that one!

This is annoying, isn’t it - can’t find a listing for anything post 2005, MK3 on.

Rock Auto have a reference for a 2006 Miata but the SMPE part number not found and no Mazda parts listed on their website.

Seems to be common practice to blank off the EGR on everything up to and including MK2.5.

I did find this for the MK3…

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RaceCo-Duratec-2-0-MX5-Caterham-Cosworth-HE-I4-LF-EGR-valve-blanking-plate-/221355262655?fits=Model%3AMX-5&hash=item3389cd42bf:g:n5MAAOxyB9RS2B~E

If you were going to go to the trouble of fitting a blank may be worth trying a secondhand part.

Its a Duratec engine so there is very likely to be a ford equivalent - lots of photos of the part around - worth a bit more investigation.

Good luck.

Would it not be easier just to put a patch lead on the socket from the connecting wire from the loom with a resistor in it!!!

Yes very, nothing for the NC, All i can see is ones similar for mondeos or mazda 3s and 6s, I had wondered whether anyone on here had modified one to work. I guess if it is the stepper motor failer i may be able to just swap it out rather than the whole unit.

I had looked into the EGR removal, but that would not get rid of the MiL light.

That might work with a removal plate! well at least get rid of the MiL light.

I have a used one…but they are a pig to fit!!

I could be interested how much do you want for it and whats its condition?

Hi, just did a search on PO304 fault code and it comes up cylinder 4, misfire, have I gone wrong somewhere?

You don’t want to buy a valve if that’s not the problem.

Have you got a misfire, all be it intermittent, or a slightly rough idle?

I think the OP has a common case of Lexdisia:-)

The code he probably meant was P0403 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation circuit malfunction

Yes it was a typo, the error code is for egr, po403.

I don’t have typos just senior moments. May I say… Remember, the error code doesn’t mean that the EGR valve is the problem, it could be anywhere on that circuit. I think the ECU is in the footwell and can suffer with water ingress. Is it worth checking out things like cable terminal connections etc for corrosion before parting with hard earned cash. Electrical components are usually non returnable! Good luck.

I was refering to my typo… I have had that in the back of my mind as occasionally the passenger footwell carpet is damp, and remember hearing the ECU is in that area. Will check it out before ordering a new egr. thanks for the heads up as the egr valve replacement job looks a a right ball ache.

The ECU is under the air filter box…

yes the EGR valve is a pig to get at…

I will supply and fit for £150+vat
