  1. My model of MX-5 is: __ MK3.75 25th anniversary edition
  2. I’m based near: __ Basildon
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __ wind deflector I am told that there is a difference between the hard to and soft top wind deflectors. my car is 2014 ( see above). I want to put the car back to factory. What wind-stop should it have. there seems to be 2. one is the fold up plastic screen. the second is very similar but have box vents at the top that point forward when you fold the deflector flat

You need this one, with the pen holder. The soft top has the one without.

You will find them cheaper than this though, just shop around.

Is there any difference in how they fit or do they just look different ?

No they both fit exactly the same and just push in the 4 clips.

now that’s exactly what I thought and I picked one up from someone who was breaking a 25th anniversary edition car which looks like the ebay link

The odd thing is that every other 25th anniversary edition that i can see pictures of seems to have the soft top version without the pen holder ( that sums it up perfectly by the way). Or that’s what it seems I have fitted the one I bought and it seems fine but as i said im a bit of an anorak for originality. I think i will keep it as is and wait until I get to some meets to see whats what

I have a 25AE and previously had a 2015 3.75 PRHT.

Both came with the version without the “box vents” (is that the “pen holder”?)

I have bitten the bullet and ordered a non pencil holder version

It looks like the way forward!

Im now wondering what version’s had the pencil holder versions?

The pen holder version can be changed to the soft top version by removing the covers and unscrewing the holder. No need to buy another one.

I am not convinced that the version without the penholder/box vents is the “soft top” version.

This is based on owing two PRHT cars (a 2014 25AE and a 2015), both of which came with the non-penholder version.

Hmm, my 2008 2.0 PRHT Niseko had the “penholder deflector” and my 25AE has the plain one.

I would suggest the one with the pen holder is for the PRHT.
The soft top one is regularly folded down to enable lifting the top - making the pen holder redundant.
In a PRHT - it is generally left in the upright position because there is no reason to access the top.

So how would you explain my 2 PRHTs (and RichardFX’s 25AE), all of which came with the non-penholder version?

I’d also dispute that it’s normally left up in PRHTs - I tend to put mine down when the top is up, to improve rear visibility.

Is it possible that there was a model year change?

My 3.75 2013 Sport Tech Nav 2.0 PRHT has the standard “Non Vent/penholder version”. :man_shrugging:

MY 2011 Kendo PRHT also had the pen holder.

My 2011 prht 2l Miyako has the penholder

He said that he has a 25AE, so it will have come with the non-penholder version.

Looking at the sample of data on this thread, I’m even more inclined to think that it’s a model year change (2008 and 2011 PRHT have penholder version; 2013, 2104 and 2015 PRHT do not).
