ND 1st Service

First service on mine yesterday at Struans in Perth, £188.

Been lucky with our 2016 ND first 3 services and 8 Mots are free .
We will obviously use up the mots but future servicing we will get our regular guy to do them.
If it was a high performance car we’d think again but the MX is a fairly basic 4 potter and our usual guy who services our daily car is a good mechanic not the usual fitter you get in garages.
He’s quoted us for a full service at £230
For the 10000 mile one which is due he’s said as all the other services were time not mileage related a brake pad ,settings ,fluid tests and a quick once over will be less than £100 plus any bits.

Hi Ian, Just out of interest what specific oil does it say on the invoice that they used. It seems the better value services do not use the Mazda oil which is very very expensive.
On my last few services a ‘Castrol Professional Ford’ oil was used. I have no issues with this as it complied with the specification decreed by Mazda.

Malc,

It lists MOILE BULK OIL 4.2l @ £10/l

Maybe

Ever looked at the shocking quality and reliability of a 3yr old VAG product which has had a single oil change in 30-35k miles…

I have driven a VAG product with 2 oil changes to 62K,
in 24 months it performed faultlessly.

Well… right up to the point the DMF allowed the flywheel to move a few mm in the wrong direction allowing the fly wheel to rip the turbo off and all of the ancillaries in the surrounding area !

A 6k bill from the Volkswagen garage soon had things back on the road!
So no harm done.

Just had a first service on my ND2 RF 2.0 at Magna Mazda in Southampton, £199 after a 10% discount for OC members and using the genuine Mazda oil.

My local dealer is TW White, Bookham and they want £220 for 1st service. Yikes.

Wouldn’t be sooooo bad if they actually did something other than an oil change

Just paid £179.97 at Western Mazda Newbridge.
Did a while you wait 1st service.
They have very comfortable high back 3 seater couches dotted around the showroom ensuring social distancing and giving you a bit of privacy to work
They are ordering a new set of 21mm wheel nuts under warranty as the existing 19mm ones are rusty.
Friendly and straightforward no hidden extras, I would definitely use them again.
So, if your in and around Edinburgh check them out.

Mazda dealers really don’t do it for me.
When I bought my first MX5 (NC Coupe, Stormy Blue, loved it) it came with a full main dealer service history so I thought I should keep this up and had it serviced in the local main dealers. No problem until just two weeks later the back brakes started making a noise. I didn’t have time to go back to the main dealer so dropped it into my local garage who diagnosed worn out brake pads! They replaced the pads for me and I vowed to never use a main dealer again.
When I bought my current car (2.0 RF in Soul Red) it was an ex-demo car with 1,800 miles on. As you can imagine I really didn’t want to entrust my wonderful new car to a main dealer so went to see Paul Roddison in Sheffield. He said he could service the car, he would use genuine Mazda parts and the warranty would still be valid.
Job Done.
Roddisons have looked after my car ever since and I must say they do a very thorough job.

I would recommend finding a local specialist who you can rely on to do the servicing properly and provided they use genuine Mazda parts there is no problem with the warranty.

Vospers Mazda Plymouth quoted me £271.98 for my cars first service. I wasn’t overly impressed with some things around my purchase - even less impressed now. Seems very high to me. My last BMW was cheaper for an oil service.

Ouch! I balked at the £220 quoted to me by my local… best I’ve had is Croydon Mazda at £206.61, still far too steep imo.

I’ve asked to speak to someone to discuss the price but nobody manning the service dept on Saturday this week. Never heard of that before either tbh although there is COV-19 I suppose. Regarding the price of servicing, maybe one of the downsides to living in an area where all the Mazda dealers are part of the same franchise(whole South West). Not exactly wealthy part of the country Plymouth either so usually things priced accordingly. Maybe first and last Mazda I own. The dealer is close to me and I hoped for better. Great car tho and think Mazda make some great cars atm. Was thinking about a CX-30 to replace a family old runabout too. Oh well

I never did receive locking wheel nuts I was promised either. So very apologetic on the day when I collected my car but never heard anything more - I’ll be asking about that when I’m in there. Wanted them even if I just kept back .
Left a message with reception anyway to talk about the price before confirming the service.

Just had my ND RF 1.5 with its 1st service at Rockingham cars in Corby for £200 and with a free courtesy car for the day. Excellent all round service.

Mine had its first service on Thursday. Quote was only £184.70 though we’re in one of the wealthiest parts of the country.
In the end I signed up for the service plan as it was cheaper overall than the three separate services as 2 and 3 are more involved - the cost is also spread out.

Just use a really good trusted independent reputable garage/dealer. :+1:
As long as they USE GENUINE MAZDA PARTS and carry out the service as per Mazda schedules it does NOT void the warranty.
Likewise, ensure that the garage documents exactly the parts/numbers and oil used etc etc.
Or buy the parts yourself and then you have the proof.
Various company’s have in house workshops and carry out the servicing themselves and if they have a warranty issue they just take it back to the main dealer.
The stumbling block for that is if the car is on PCP/Finance and you would need to check the small print involved with that company.
If you have a warranty issue just go to the Mazda dealer as normal.
Those that are perhaps a little nervous then you don’t have a choice other than to stick with the high prices.
Gets quotes from both and make an informed decision is just my opinion and advice.
Each to there own of course.
Enjoy your motoring. :slightly_smiling_face:

Donalds at Ipswich, first service on a 30AE, at 800 miles, quoted £216, ridiculous for an oil change but went ahead to keep the warranty up to date. Why have they used Total 0W-30 though? this is for diesel engines !

I use a Castrol oil in my daily driver, it’s recommended for diesel or petrol engines. Same goes for the Total oil too I guess.

Hi Pumpkin
Had my 30AE 1st service so Mitchell Mazda at Cheshire Oaks £215 quoted and what I paid ( After they tried to charge £233 !)
Had the‘Rottweiler’ with me who was on the case!
They used same grade oil…trust them to not make a cocky uppy!
Hopefully!
Cheers
