Hi all,
For those of you that have fitted the full Mazda aero kit (front dam, side skirts, boot lip) to their ND- has there been any actual handling / performance change?
I’m guessing it is just all cosmetic at legal road speeds?
Cheers

Purely cosmetic.
Nice, I thought so
Is Aero kit something your thinking about having fitted?
I confess I am in that league too. I have biing thinking about it for a while and have started drafting my letter to Father Christmas .
For those ND owners who have the kit fitted, has it been a worthwhile investment/upgrade, appreciating that it is only cosmetic.
For my part, I think they look fantastic especially against soul red or white ND’s and on 30AE’s they look amazing.
My only reservation about fitting them to my Annerversary Edition (appart from the cost) is that I would be changing from the factory “limited edition”.
It is only a reservation though.
An interesting comparison would be; if you had the choice of buying one of two identical and same priced 30AE’s, but one had the Aero kit fitted and the other one didn’t, which one would you choose .
For me I think the kit makes the car. I agree the 30AE looks awesome with it and would not hesitate. I get your reservation but they are all Mazda parts and I think wouldn’t negatively affect any future value (I’m sure it would add though). A couple of photos of mine for anyone curious. Happy to take any others specifically.
Funnily enough I was just looking at these pics on another thread to help me decide.
Long story short I am not looking at adding them to a standard ND. I am however looking at a Recaro Edition which has them fitted from the factory and wondered if they made any difference as I quite enjoy the standard car as it is!
As others mentioned the kit is purely cosmetic. I added it as I think it makes a huge amount of difference visually. Personally if you can get a recaro for a similar price to a ‘normal’ model I would go for it. As well as the aero kit they also have unique wheels and the recaro seats (plus other items I can’t think of I’m sure).
Yes, my thinking exactly. Still not sure on the Recaro seats as none nearby to check out. The car in question is miles away so still deciding if it is worth the trip to look at it! Decisions!
I have a Sport Recaro. The seats were one of my top reasons for buying it.
One of the reasons I bought the Recaro was that the aero kit was fitted as standard. Added a few extra aero items too. The Recaro seats are excellent!
If you want the best car you have to be prepared to travel to find it! I have a Recaro, the seats are so much better that the standard seats.
Mine is a Recaro too, I understand the reservation about not wanting to make changes to a Limited Edition model, especially visually, I’ve done more than most to mine but even to this day you have understand what a standard car looks like to notice the extent of the modifications. The last thing I’ve been holding onto is the wheels as it will be the most obvious tell that the car is modified, but for me they are the wrong wheel offset so unfortunately have to go.
As others have said though, I do think the aero kit makes the car, especially in the rear, when the 1st images of the MK4 were released the worst angle of it for me was the rear, the rear air dam for me helps greatly with the visuals on the rear.
I have the full aero kit on my 100ae, subjective but I think the ND looks wrong without it, as if something is missing.
I was able to get close up to a 30AE today with a full aero kit. First kit I had seen in real life that close. Two things I noticed that I hadn’t appreciated before, first was just how gloss black they are, they match perfectly with the gloss black ‘A’ pillars and second, they are a bit bigger than I realised too.
I do think they look like an integral part of the car and definaly not like an “after thought” body kit. I am so wanting a full set now.
Any chance of a low level picture showing how thickend skirt meets your “100 YEARS 1920-2020” badge.
I think that there maybe a certain amount of aerodynamic effect from the aero kit. When fitting the front air dam, an under body (not visible) air dam is fitted also. I can’t see why this would be fitted if aero dynamics are not changed.
Maybe the aero kit has a negative effect on aerodynamics and the hidden part counteracts this…
Interesting topic.
Speculation. Could it improve radiator air flow, or maybe increase brake cooling?
Is the undercover plastic or metal?
If undercover is plastic that bit of angle (plastic too?) could be a useful stiffener, but then I’d add a 10mm washer on the inside of the undercover where the pop-rivet expands, to help prevent them pulling through on casual knocks.
I guess it helps adjust the air pressure back up again for the brake scoops while dropping it further back, hence even better radiator flow. I think it adds more drag.
The car is never going to be low enough for ground effect though.
I’d like to see some numbers on the car’s overall Cd with and without the various Aero components, but I guess that is simply wishful thinking.
For me, regardless of performance, the kit really does help the looks!
From what i recall, its all plastic.
Definitely all the extras that come with the Recaro, make it excellent value
