Intro
Apparently two MX-5s just isn’t enough! I bought my 30th Anniversary Edition to take the miles off my RF Launch Edition but after quadrupling the mileage on the 30AE in less than two years I realised another one might be necessary. And before you ask, a second “sensible” car would be sensible but I am just not that logically inclined ![]()
Why a Sport Recaro?
Prior to 2024 the Recaro seats in the ND were only ever available in three trims:
- Sport Recaro Edition (2016)
- RF Launch Edition (2017)
- 30th Anniversary Edition (2019)
And I have quite the affinity to those seats so I decided the logical step was to get a Sport Recaro as that seemed like the much cheaper option that a 2024+ Homura. After some searching I managed to find a Sport Recaro that ticked my boxes:
- Low (ish) Mileage (<50k)
- Full Mazda Service History
- Original Sport Recaro extras (surprising how many were missing floor mats etc.)
- Original accessories (cup holders seem to regularly go missing)
- No screen delamination
My Sport Recaro
Due to the time of year, pretty much every photo I have has been taken at night so I am stealing the photos by the dealer for now.
Collection Carnage
Being me, I couldn’t take a simple collection process or even a local car.. No, I decided a car 4 hours away was the one I wanted ![]()
I got the train down to view the car but on the way back was informed that there could be industrial action when I was intending to collect the car. Therefore I decided a flight would be the better option at ~£10 more and less travel time it made sense. However, that would not be the case at all ![]()
Instead, the flight I chose got cancelled after I spent 1.5 hours waiting in an airport. After which it then took another 1.5 hours to get out the airport! Which left me miles away from the car with a closing collection window.
Thankfully I have some amazing MX-5 friends, one of whom agreed to drive me 4 hours to collect the car ![]()
So only 4 hours late I arrived at the dealership to take ownership of my new car and rive it the 4 hours back, with a stop at Caffeine & Machine: The Hill for good measure and to start the modifications.
Modifications
I think it lasted less than 4 hours before the first modifications had been applied! I might have even done one on the dealership car park ![]()

Number Plates
I really need to get them all lined up as it is quite entertaining (in my eyes anyway). As some of you will have seen when I got my 30AE I had basically matching number plates. Well the plate has moved from the 30AE to this with the 30AE now being in my brother’s possession. But that means it just gets a slightly different variation…
