New car (NC). Pioneer head unit hisses, no sound from rear speakers

Picked up a lovely NC yesterday, a 2.0 Sport with Bose, except the previous owner has installed a Pioneer SPH-DA120 head unit. It sounds lovely, aside from two things:

  • There’s a constant hiss. It’s quiet, but it’s there.
  • Rear speakers are practically silent (but they do work, just incredibly quiet)

Any ideas what I need to look for before I start ripping the head unit out?

Thanks!

the factory fitted headrest speakers are a waste of time. Some people change the speakers and install an amplifier. Re hiss, I think Bose speakers new a spacial gizmo, at least when I was enquiring about fitting an aftermarket head unit, that was what I was told. Mine is not Bose and I have not got round to fitting a replacement head unit yet.

It’s all good, I’ve put in the original Bose head unit as I much prefer it to the Pioneer one. Problem solved. Thanks though.

If you want to see the plethora of wires that came out, head over to my thread… it’s shocking.
