hi all, just picked up an 09 plate 2L mx5 nc in galaxy grey.
im based on the herts essex border and so far i am loving it though iv already got a couple little niggles with it.
the boot floor and carpet were soaked so iv hung the carpet up to dry above a bucket and dried the boot floor, im hoping it is just a slightly dodgy seal though have a sneaky feeling that it wont be that simple
there is a slight hesitation sometimes when driving at low rpm almost like an ignition cut though its literally for a split second, oil pressure is good and its not drinking fuel and the eml isnt on so maybe im just being paranoid after my last 2 vehicles went tits up with limp mode and the like.
the rear subframe and suspension components are looking abit corroded, i know it needs new drop links and arb bushes which is nothing but still a job needing doing before winter proper
looking forward to spending time here and getting to know some peeps here
If you’ve time get stuck in and tackle this yourself.
Subframes and suspension components are rarely clean on cars of this age.
Clean back to good metal then choose your brand of rust converter , underbody protection.
Check rear arches under liners, common corrosion area
Plenty of posts regarding rust on the forum.
If you’ve not got time or the inclination to tackle there’s plenty of places that would take the job on , but it ain’t cheap.
Just so you know, your oil pressure gauge is NOT what it seems it is just like an oil pressure light. It only tells you that you have some pressure or none, it is NOT actual pressure.
so its been raining all day around here and there is a small amount of moisture just by the throttle pedal and when i feel around i can feel some moisture on a bracket of some description up to the right hand side under the dash (could that be the door hinge?) so i am going to guess at the scuttle grommets as you have said, there is not any wetness or anything behind the seats so im going to guess the hood and drains are good there.
at the weekend i shall investigate the spark plug holes as you have alluded to
so i had it up on a ramp yesterday and it doesnt look too sad on closer inspection the usual places look decent enough and its been undersealed well and by someone who knew what they were doing, as for the suspension components thats exactly my plan of action over the next few weekends ill take the arb off and tidy that up with new drop links and bushes, along with wire brushing and lanoguarding the rest of it (bar the brakes)
I had a small pool of water in the boot of my NC and it turned out to be the rear light. I had the bumper sprayed a while back and the painter didn’t tighten up the nuts holding the light in so the seal wasn’t compressed enough and leaked.
