Ooops knocked off my wing mirror!

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __NC 3.5
  2. I’m based near: __Sheffield
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __wing mirror

Hi all,

This morning and entirely my fault, I’ve managed to knock off my wing mirror.

Can buy a new one un painted or a second one hand for the bits but just checking if there is a different option.

Please feel free to tell me to be a better driver!

Cheers
Nic

Cant you buy just the bits that got broken? And in the meantime, fix it with duct tape (of a highly contrasting colour, as a penance)?

(I have done worse things than that!)

Sheffield Wednesday trainers?

Super glue or tape  but yeah mx5parts (the forum sponsor) does new ones

ha ha kind of but if asked I’m the other side!

I was on Ecclesall rd with a build of traffic behind me and a bus in front stuck on the bus lane. I felt pressure to get round the bus (stupid I know). I thought the gap was big enough and it probably was, but my driving left something to be desired.

Least you had the new sound system to block out the tears

Yes and it is really really ace, has made me love the car even more. However I was on the phone (hands free of course) to a work colleague…

Pick yourself up, dust yourself down and buy a new wing mirror!

I think they only come as complete units, no repair bits available.
So it’s your usual place or a breaker for secondhand.

I recently had my wing mirrors off to paint them, and had hoped that the two pieces, mirror housing and the door mount section came apart, but after searching for a while and asking around was told they don’t and once fitted together that’s it…

As others have said you can get unpainted or painted from mx5parts, although quite expensive in my book…

Alternatively a breakers or they sometimes crop up on eBay, though they generally don’t seem to be in good condition…

Contact Paul roddison he may have the bits , also in Sheffield :white_check_mark::white_check_mark:

Someone on this forum made a repair a while back, if you are handy with the tools, have a read of this:-

Thanks for all the replies, mirth and advice. Always appreciated. I bought a used silver one off Shaun at MX5 shop for £90. Should be here tomorrow and back on Friday. A minor blip. I recall 20 years ago I had a wing mirror kicked off, of a night on a Merc I owned and that cost just over £300 even then. So I consider I got off fairly lightly.

Oh and Shaun was very helpful, I left a message, he called back and sent out on a next day.

That’s kind thanks, but beyond me!

I think you need to think of door mirrors as being expendable. I know they are expensive but I would rather have the mirror knocked off or damaged than have a scrape down the side of my car. For that reason I never fold them back. Other drivers will then give the car more clearance when trying to squeeze past.

Ha, yes. Now I’ve been getting through yet smaller gaps. Without, it reminds me of my mk1 Fiesta, only the one mirror and no headrests.

So I rushed into buying an incorrect mirror, duly returned. I’ve now bought a new one off mx5 parts.

So I managed to knock my wing mirror off again at the weekend. This time I hit a wooden post as i passed over a sheep grate near Stanage Edge. I then drove rather slowly as my nephew held on to the wing mirror as we carried on to the in laws in Edale. I then helped mow the lawn and managed to cut through the power cable of the mower…… In 37 years off driving I have carelessly managed to remove a total of 5 of my own wing mirrors. Is this a record?

Yes it’s a door mirror…. Has it ever been a wing mirror?
