Opinions - Rear Panel in Black (or not?)

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NBFL Mk2.5
  2. I’m based near: Oxford
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: opinions on a styling idea.

I’m thinking of painting (or using PlastiDip) on the rear panel behind my numberplate.

I can’t decide if I like it or not though. Can I have some honest opinions before I try it please?

Thanks!
Darren.

Noooo, I think it would look tacky as ■■■■ to be honest.

Thank you Yeah.

Yeah, that the consensus I’m getting from the family too.

Thank goodness for trying things digitally first!

Another no here too…!

Thank you all!!

Sometimes things look so much different in real life. One roll of insulation tape will do a perfect job from six feet away. Ten minutes to do it, if it looks ■■■■, two minutes to take it off.

Fair suggestion :+1:

This was my mk3, did it as part of the overall refurb of the car. Never did make up my mind whether I liked it or not.

Interesting, thanks.
I think it looks better on the NC because of the position the number plate.

I like those tailpipes though!

I think the rectangular smaller, 2 line plate helps as it shows more black? Not strictly legal plate either :grinning:

Well it’s a landslide win for the black panel. Those don’t do it people stole the vote. They invented votes from dead people. We are going to go to the courts with this and if they don’t agree then we will march on the paint shop. Black panels matter.

If you like the idea of breaking up the outline at the rear with a bit of black, have you considered running a black band between the rear light clusters?
I’ve seen a heavily modified yellow NB done like that and it looked good.

NB with aftermarket rear lights.

Go for it! :smiling_imp:

Then you need Rostyles,
Then there’s the required Whip Ariel.

To be garnished with, naturally…

Wow, that’s a Beast! Maybe it bit more black than I’d want though.

It was actually cars like the Dolomite Sprint or Nova GTE that gave me the idea.
