My TT Came with a private plate with no premium . Y22 DJE. Personally I think it’s pretty silly but I’m open to offers with four figures and a pound sign.
Please from an orderly queue….
I asked the DVLA to make my MX51MJR “available” for auction, which they duly did.
I had to bid on it with everyone else when it was released about 6-8 weeks later… no one else did.
£250 later…
How did you ask? Did you just register interest?
It’s also lucky that his/her name happens to be Mx51 Mjr!
I registered on their website. I never actually spoke with anyone at the DVLA.
At the time they had 2-3 auctions a year.
If I recall, the procees was :
1: Register an interest direct with the DVLA in the registration you want, (if is not already available or assigned)
2: DVLA confirm that it can be made available and ask if you want to proceed.
3: Reply “yes please ”
4: They confirm that the registration will be included in the next auction.
5: Wait… and wait…,. and wait.
6: Then on auction day place your bid. I did get a reminder from them that the auction was starting.
I only followed the links on the DVLA website. Although I think it is a private company that “administers” the auction.
The auction is not like eBay. Don’t leave bidding to the last minute. The hammer falls at the end of the auction OR 3 days after the last bid was received.
Going once… going twice etc.
They will only auction the registration in this way. They will not sell it direct and avoid the auction… there is no “buy it now” option.
For me, and friends I know who have done it also, the whole process was straightforward. It’s just the waiting that’s the hard part.
Result for me though .
MX5 is for the car, MJR are my initials and the 1 in the middle is because I didn’t want to be second
I’ve bought numerous plates direct from dvla and never paid more than 250. As long as you’re not after anything too specific to a name they always seem to be available. My favourite was this one on my s15
Anyone know if the 01 plates will ever be released? I.e., AB01 CDE etc. I have the 02 and 03 versions of the same plate and the 01 would be nice to have. All I can find is that the 01 plates are “reserved.”
The current style only started at 51 - the 01 was never released.
“Y” registration covered September 2000 to August 2001 - then the new style started.
Yes, I understand the system and that the new style started with 51 plates. I just wondered if the 01 plates would ever be made available.
I owned a 2001 Y registered vehicle.
I only ever bought off dvla
Had col1n on a Radford cooper S in the 70s it never was released at the time I put it on for a photo shoot and left it on for three years with the real plates in the boot , eventually i got stopped and said sorry ocifer i forgot to change them after my photos and he was fine
