Yeah, I’m going to fit a satellite dish for better reception  Seriously, though, I used to have a stubby aerial but even that kept snagging on my car cover, so I’ve unscrewed it for now. I’ve ordered a grommet and when it arrives I’m going to remove the aerial completely - never listen to the radio anyway.

This may not be the solution for you but I did an aerial delete on a previous 5 and used one of those chrome blanking plugs for sink taps? It looks like your not a chrome lover though, based on that pic?

Something like this,

Looking Forward to the next 1/4 of a mile.

I’m amazed that worked, as the bodywork is curved at that point, hence why I went for rubber. A number of other MX5 NC owners swore by the following grommet from Honda so I thought I’d give it a try. Typically, the merchant took my money before saying it was out of stock and should be available early April. I would have gone elsewhere but couldn’t find another UK stockist.

TBH, when I think back,it was on my Supercharged MK1!

How much slower around a track is the auto compared to similar manuals?

Depends on how much you cane it. Its got a couple of tricks up its sleeve.1840cc versions like mine have a bullet proof Jatco box and if you put it in S and depress Hold it essentially provides a 2 speed range which locks out the torque converter…and you get a good X country stabbed rat. It keeps it right in the rev range you need…up to 7.4k Mid-range punch is very good.Plus…in that mode engine braking is good to. Never felt short changed on B road blasts. Mine chirps its offside rear if I dump it from standstill…with Rainsports. I could play keeps puppy with our 1840cc 2002 sport. Not on the motorway to be fair above legal limit for long. The Sport would have its guts for garters past illegal speed but I reckon my Auto on kick down & Hold in S between say 40 to an alleged 80 plus might lose a car length or 2 but not a lot more. But twists? Not a lot in it. They are usually underestimated by those who have never driven one…and tbh the official figures paint a false image of what they can do. Ive surprised one or two folk over the years on 5 run outs. Quite funny really. Oh…around 15 mpg -ish is the hooligan mode norm but hey ho. Cruises at 3.1k rpm at 70mph…good enough long distance eater for what it is.
As for FI autos…in the right hands on track they are a proper weapon. Fond memories of the famous RockDoc in his supercharged / water injected hyper 1600 really hissing off the hot hatch/ Scooby types at Knockhill.

No - you learn something every day!

Haven’t been up to that neck of the woods with our MX5 but have stayed over in Stonehaven a number of times. Like it there.

Hope you can redress that one day.
Like the Lakes, Yorkshire, west Wales etc the finest 5 roads, some of which beggar belief, await you.
