PRHT won't close

There is only one micro switch on the roof mechanism to check its travel (drivers side I think)”

there are two micro switches for the deck, the ones Bettabuilda had changed, there are another two on the drivers side for the roof it’s self, one can be seen with the roof down (when the deck is up and stopped over the boot) hidden in the rubber at the top of the B pillar when viewed looking forward standing by the rear wing. The other is a few inches lower by the roof mechanism cog and can be seen when the roof is up and the deck is stopped over the boot.

a single micro switch can be heard in the windscreen surround where the roof latch hooks in.

not Sure if there’s more!

Richard.

In the last picture the Red and Green high current leads to the motor go via a grey plastic sleeve in a black cover box.

Does this contain a one-shot thermal fuse? Or a surge-limiting resistor?  Or something else?

Might be the angle of the camera Barrie but the gap between the metal strip & the button (or contact?) on the switch with the white wire appears to be significantly less than the gap on the switch with the red wire?

If the switch with the white wire controls the failed motor, I wonder whether that switch has failed to open properly, causing motor damage (as per RichardFX’s suggestion that the motor failure could possibly be the result of switch failure)?

Andy, you’ve won first prize in the spot the difference competition  very observant of you and TBH, I leapt at that too, as soon as I got the old harness out of the box. Turns out it was just some spray residue (WD40 or something) but I took the pic before investigating fully, the other switch was as clean as a whistle! Ironically, the ‘dirty’ switch passed the multimeter test and the clean one failed?  They are momentary switches rather than a proper on/off, they don’t click, just depress the contact to make(or break) the circuit. Good spot though mate, appreciate that you’re on the case, as it were  it’s quite likely that switch may have affected the motor though. Away from its position in the car, I’m not sure about the orientation, which is top and bottom positions for these switches, glad I wasn’t refitting them  been into garage this morning and opened roof, absolutely fine, no issues

Barrie

Barrie, stop it you’ll wear it out proving it’s OK still!

No, no, no, not like Homer Simpson: click, “Light goes on”, click, “Light goes off”, click, “Light goes on”, click, “Light goes off”, click, “Light goes on”, click, “Light goes off”, click, “Light goes on”, click, “Light goes off”, click,…

SHUT IT NOW BARRIE! Smith & Locke Disc Padlock 70mm
And keep it shut! Couple of these should help.
Glad your sorted…see you next week.

Well he’s says it’s fixed but has anyone seen any photographic evidence of it in the open and closed position to prove it?      Only joking Barrie!

Well, the gauntlet has well and truly been thrown down now Andrew, or slapped in my face or whatever!

Here’s roof up,

Roof down,

and an extra one, I’ve removed front number plate and the plinth, ready for the full Zunsport black mesh grill! Finally decided to pull the trigger and go for it.

Just need to sort a front plate out now, it’s nestling against the windscreen at the moment  Fancy a small rectangular one like on the previous car, not sure whether to go centrally (as before) or offset?

Barrie

I would keep it central as I hate things looking “out of balance” so to speak, and to me an offset plate would just look “wrong”.  Personal opinion only, each to their own!

Barrie - I knew you couldn’t resist posting a photo ha ha . Weekend weather looks good so good to be out and about. Your car wheels look great by the way since the refurb. . I’m sure you are glad to get your car back so enjoy it.

Thanks guys, I think countryboy is right about the plate location, it’s where the other one was on the other car  and you’re right Andrew, it is good to have the car back fully working, shame it’s swallowed 60% of my paint budget to get it repaired though  live to fight another day and all that

Barrie

We know you have mastered lifting dropping the roof the manual way these picture prove nothing…we need video

HaHa, very funny  I’ve all on doing pictures on here Bruce! Plus, it would need two people, one in the car raising and lowering and another filming? Hmmmmm, you never know though?  I knew I should have date and time stamped the pics, less than 20 seconds from roof up to roof down. How much more do you want?  Couldn’t do that manually in that time, I’m good at it but not that good!
