After 2 weeks of waiting it has started. There will be a video showing most of the process but there is still some sanding and clear coat to go on but… LOOK!!!
See it go from bad to good… (tomorrow it will be great).
Not much to report. Badges will be going on soon but here is a general update for the outside of the car it’s coming along quite well!
Looking for October for rear wing. After that it’s time to start on the interior. Looking at the seat surgeons custom stuff seems to be what I am going to be looking toward with the AKARI KURO logo stitched into the seat. There is a piano black steering wheel on rev 9 that looks promising but for now she’s going to remain as she is after badges have been done in order to replenish the funds. Expect an overview video to come out soon of the car up to this point listing all the mods!
Well, I for one, can unreservedly recommend SeatSurgeons having had two interiors completed by them both times went for standard leather, which is hardwearing and looks great. Embroidered logos are £25.00 each and fitted costs including logo’s is/was £850 (both seats, door card inserts, handbrake and gear lever gaiters)
Great news the badges are going on Wednesday. I had to get help repainting as they kept reacting.
Android Auto and Apple car play have also been added… (See photos below).
Next stage will be a rear spoiler but that won’t be until the new year as I am saving for that ultimate investment… a house. Youtube channel will be updated with all current mods including a new air filter as soon as I get a sunny day to film.
This is a great thread, I have just watched your youtube videos, top effort!
The badges look excellent, something I plan to do. Look forward to your video on this, interested in how to do the swap without damaging the car and/or the badges.
Did you buy extra badges from Mazda? I imagine this is cheaper and more satisfying that buying the set from rev9.
Cheers for the kind words there will be another video soon with a full mod update but I need/want a sunny day to film it. From experience get a detailer to paint the badges for you and fit them. stripping them and painting myself was a nightmare.
I bought a set of spare badges and did them that way. The REV 9 ones look expensive but I have it on hand the quality of them are insane I have seen them in the flesh (apart from the matt ones) and the fact they come with pre applied tape is a HUGE BONUS. If mine dont hold up over the rainy months I will be getting the gloss black ones from rev 9 no doubt. If you want to ake your badges off yourself heatgun and thin but strong fishing wire and thread between the paint and badge. make sure to not melt the paint for the love of god!
Update. Funds are being saved for the next round of mods! In the meantime I thought that Mazdas smoked side repeaters were simply not smoked enough so I got myself these from amazon… £28 and 3 minute install time. They are beautiful.
We seemed to have one last sunny day in the South West so I took the old man out for a drive for the first time in my Mx5… Went down too Haynes breakfast meet got slotted next to a challenger. She got a fair bit of attention lots of other Mx-5’s there but no MK4’s. I spoke to some people there talking about a short shifter for the ND. Not something I considered as the shift is already rather short but a popular mod over in the states apparently may be available over here soon as well without having to import. exiting stuff!
Probably going to be well over a hundred quid once you’ve paid shipping and import duty. How about a set of chrome ones? A couple of weeks soaking in bleach is said to strip chrome off plastic. Then you can paint them black.
Always looking for the budget solution myself. How does £6.52 sound?
Isn’t obvious if they are for RHD or LHD but if they are wrong you could fill the hole and make a new hole in the other one. At that price it’s worth a go.
Edit - Just looked again and I think they are symmetrical so would fit either LHD and RHD.
I’ve got a bit of extra chrome on my car already so I’ve just ordered a pair of these for myself. I’ll report on fit and quality when I get them.
So my solution to the short antenna was no good as the washer paint had started to flake and I wanted a shorter one. So I got me some rubber washers and bought a rather small totally useless stub/nub.
As I never use radio this does not bother me I prefer it to look good and get my tunes on my phone. To be honest, at this stage I may just remove the ariel port and filler and paint it because even this feels too big…
Bit of a rest over the winter period, good to be back. Car has developed some minor rattles. Something I have had for a while is the roof rattles when the top is down and driving. I have multiple fixes in the works trying to rectify the issue and will let everyone know what they are when I sort them. I have got the infamous door card/window rattle. I have some new door bushings arriving today to see if this solves the issue, again will keep everyone informed.
More exiting stuff coming in the next 24 months…
New spoiler not going over the top with this one I will be getting the Rev9 duck garden spoiler painted gloss black obviously.
New wind blocker I have managed to find the official Mazda one dirt cheap from a friend of mine so that will be added.
New nuts (of the lug variety… what did you think I meant) Black to match the BBS wheels.
Then it is time to start working on the interior which will take a lot of planning but I think seat surgeons will be involved!
Hope everyone is doing well and had a good Christmas.
