There’s just no stopping you Barrie is there! Good luck, have fun!!!
Thanks Roger hopefully all will be good. I think these Proart mono-blocks get bad press from some high end audiophiles (and some not so high end folks) for £100 a pair though, factoring in that they can be individual stereo amps as well, I couldn’t resist! Will report back when I get them!

Umm, no, ouch, not speaker outputs!
Just use the line level outputs. You could just plug the headphone lead from your TV (or an ear-player, or phone etc) into them, and drown in some decent sound with your bigger speakers!
Yes Richard, my mistake. My pre-amp out left goes to the left monoblock input, ditto for the right, and the speaker is connected to the relevant speaker out on the monoblock. Sorry for the confusion!
Hmmmmm so, the only outputs I have on the Sony are for tape out? Or, I have the speakers. IIRC I have a line level adapter for just such an occasion, I guess I need to seek it out and buy a second one for the other channel?
Something like this?

Hmmmmm, I’m wondering now about that. The Sony unit must be an integrated unit and have both a pre-amp stage and an actual power amp built in otherwise it couldn’t power speakers, and giving those mono-blocks a further looking at they’ve got a heck of a lot of controls for just a mono power amp. My monoblocks have an on/off switch at the front and on the rear a power plug input, a signal input socket (also another one marked “link” for connecting another amp in parallel) and the + and - speaker sockets. No knobs or dials of any sort, all controls being on the separate pre-amp. Barrie I suggest you have a chat with Richard or Roadie both of whom have experience in the field so to speak.
Use the tape outputs from whatever you are using to feed the monoblocks. I’ll call it a receiver for now. Here’s the theory. Preamp stage of the receiver will introduce some distortion. Feed the tape output to the monoblocks which will introduce more distortion. So two lots of distortion. If you use the speaker outputs of the receiver fed through a line level converter to power the monoblocks you have the following. Receiver preamp distortion, receiver power amp distortion, monoblocks distortion. So three lots of distortion.
I wish all this had been said earlier!
Not to worry, let’s see what happens when it all arrives! Might end up getting a pre amp. The little AIWA stacks that I sold a few months ago, both had separate pre amps feeding the main amps, would have been perfect for this!
Barrie
Barrie, It’s just occurred to me (sorry my old brain only works in short spurts) that maybe those units may be fully integrated amps with an inbuilt pre-amp stage, that could explain all the knobs and switches.
Hi Roger, yes. I think they are! There is a switch to ‘bridge’ them, making them mono rather than stereo. Fingers crossed, I can do something with them!
Barrie
Hi Barrie. If they are then great, you won’t need to use the Sony unit at all, you can just use the input sockets on those amps and provided the impedance matches you can just plug the LH and RH leads from the source (T/T, CD, tuner, etc.) into the respective amp. I sure it’ll be fine!
Roger
Cheers Roger! as Mr Macawber said, “something will turn up”
or am I confusing him with someone else? It will work out fine I’m sure!
Barrie
Well that didn’t take long!!
Will report back when I’ve had chance to unbox

You’ve got to smile

Barrie
Well, it did come with leads although a 2 pin non UK Plug fitted. There is a manual of sorts so thats possibly good too!
Barrie
Out of the packaging and everything ‘feels’ nice. Quite heavy for a small amp at 5kg, beautiful finish, alloy anodised black casing, front and rear panels as well, volume knob has a real nice click as it turns. Banana plug speaker binding posts too! All good from the aesthetics department
Barrie
The new leads arrived along with the solderless RCA phono plugs
We must be getting back to normal possibly regards posting/deliveries as everything was ordered yesterday and here today

2m leads so plenty of length, I just need to wire a UK plug on one of them and use the other to link the amps as they have an AC out (not switched) to daisy chain them together.
Barrie
WOW! That WAS quick!! They look in great condition too!!! Another bargain Barrie!!!
PS: Did a Google search and found a couple of very positive user reviews on Hi-Fi chat sites!!!
Thats encouraging Roger they were brand new in original packaging for £100 a pair! Amazing ( providing they work that is)

Hi all, been combing the internet for information on these new amps. I found a snippet regarding using them in bridged (mono-block) mode. Basically, the speaker connections should be both red (+) outputs from the amps to a single speaker, not using the two black (-) speaker terminals. Read this on an AV forum and also viewed a picture showing this on a Russian? site. I’ve now got a 2nd line level converter to match the one I already had so, my next step would be to connect these (or one) to the speaker outputs of one of my main (Call it a pre amp), hopefully.

I do have an issue though
Originally, my intention was to use A +B speaker outputs together (selectable on the main amp) into the converter, then plug both RCA outputs from each line level converter to the pair of RCA input sockets on each mono-block. (I’m thinking though that these input sockets are for using the mono-block in stereo mode with a audio component (cd player/tape etc as a single integrated amp).
Each line level converter has 2 pair of speaker connection wire inputs, the line level outs are a pair of RCA phono female sockets. Using only one converter, I could connect both pairs of speaker wires on the converter to +/- L/R outputs A or B selected, on the main amplifier, that would give me just a pair of RCA phono connections.
Is plugging one RCA output into left mono-block and the other into the right mono-block going to give me what I need? The Russian website shows a single RCA connection to an amp with, as said, both red (+) connections to the speaker with the mono -block switched to mono. I need help as I don’t want to burn out or otherwise destroy the system by making the wrong connections! I feel like the scarecrow in Wizard of Oz, singing “ If I only had a brain”
