Retro and budget home hi fi

There you go Roger! I’m looking forward to listening to these, might take a bit of time but a lot of easy listening is just that, relaxing and playing this type of music!

Actually Barrie among my LP sets I have quite a few RD and WRC and the recordings are not rubbish they are taken from the back catalogue of world famous labels like RCA, Coumbia and Capitol. So enjoy!

That’s nice to know Roger :+1: The guy I got them from just could not get anyone interested? Until I came along of course!

It’s such a shame when stuff like this gets put in the trash IMO. I realise I can’t rescue every record, but I’m doing my bit for the cause!

Right, first things first! Only just seen this Roger, I hope you are OK my friend  Apologies for not contacting earlier  but as said, I’ve literally only just seen your post.
I know it’s only a car but you look after your stuff Roger and to have a ‘no mark’ run into you, cause that damage and then just disappear is terrible. More importantly, you need to look after yourself Roger, you may feel OK today but these things have a habit of hitting you a day or so after. My advice (for what it’s worth) is to at least get in touch with your surgery to advise that you’ve been involved in an accident. It’s on record then and your doctor may advise rest or painkillers or whatever, if required.

Hi Barrie and Dawn.
Thanks for your concern, I’ll give the surgery a ring in the morning. This event was due to Covid! I’ve been given an appointment for my jab at a place I am unfamiliar with so this morning I was on my way to do a “recce” to check location, parking etc… Damn pandemic!!

Who knew that coming back to the forum I would have found a post like this
A few months ago my wife spotted an ad on Gumtree. 400+ singles from 50s 60s snd 79s. .£50. Yes £50. No brainer got them. That led to getting a jukebox. Wurlitzer with nsm internals with another 400 singles. Spent most of Christmas cataloguing on Discogs. Bought a Rega to play in tandem with my Dual turntable. All kept since i bought in the 80s. Vinyl is definitely back.
Record cleaning is a pain though. Just do a set when changing the playlist in jukebox.

Some bargains out there regarding vinyl if you watch out for it. I actually don’t mind some of the ‘easy listening’ stuff :+1: put an album on, sit back and chill out, no auto return for me so get my exercise that way  only joking!
I just love analog equipment! Although, I have to admit to having soundbars, a pair of echo studios, etc, etc. dotted around the house too.

Our teen ch like the notion of just moving the tone arm and removing albums from sleeves. Small things.
Like you I have Beats etc but just not as engaging somehow.

So, been spending! :money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face:
Don’t get excited though, I won an eBay auction for a Goldring G800 cart and stylus! Princely sum of £8.75  perfect condition with, what looks like (through a glass) a hardly used spherical stylus. £2.00 postage but I have to say, its the single most well packaged item I’ve EVER received via eBay!!

Really pleased and bargain price. These carts were very popular back in the day, albeit not high end. Elliptical stylus is available for not much money too! Bought it really for the 78’s so may just stick with the spherical one. Might see if a proper 78 one is available
Whilst feeling flush, I bought one of these too! Brought back memories! New old stock for £5.00 delivered!

I recall feeling rather smug upgrading my Garrard SP25 deck with a G800.
All of sudden All Things Must Pass came alive via me state of art Dynatron cans…yeah man…and then Out of the Blue…

I keep pondering new cartridges for my turntables but then find something else to spend my money on such as an MX5 NC.

Similar experience here - Was going to upgrade my cd player/amplifier combo last July, but bought a MX-5ND instead… which so far, seems to have been a very good decision…

I have gone back to vinyl at the mo although I did buy Thin Lizzy’s greatest hits on cd just because I got The Boys are Back in Town for my jukebox. I keep hearing tracks and convincing myself they sre classics I should have. Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Chile arrived today.

I never had much vinyl to begin with when I went over to CD in about '86… Thin Lizzy’s Greatest Hits CD is amongst the Hendrix, Hawkwind, Cream, Queen, Mott the Hoople, Bowie and T.Rex… just to mention a few

Got s lot of Bowie on vinyl along with Queen, Blue Oyster Cult ,Bad Company. Cream, Free AC/DC etc on vinyl 45. Lots of 45s in fact. Took ages to catalogue.

Forgotten about that track. The ‘B’ side of My Sweet Lord, or was it a double ‘A’ side?

I certainly remember having “What Is Life” on a single at the time - I was not working, and couldn’t afford the “All Things Must Pass” album, so it must have been either a double ‘A’, or as you said, perhaps the ‘B’ side of “My Sweet Lord”.

I have since bought the CD version of the album, and it is interesting to read George’s sleeve notes for the CD issue, which suggests that in later years, he was not happy with Phil Spector’s production. Still, it was ‘of the time’ I suppose.
