Regards,

We like this area of Scotland but we have only been there in late May and September time.  What are the midgey’s like in mid June time? Will we need anything to keep them off, as for some particular reason they like to bite me more than my wife.

Midges are not a problem at this time of the year. Levels are much
lower as it only late Spring. Wetter warmer summer weather of late July
August is when they become a problem. Anyway, with the top down they
can’t keep a good hold!!!  Hope that helps.

As Graham says you would have to be unlucky to encounter midges then, however if you do Avon ‘Skin So Soft’ is remarkably effective in combatting them.

Alternative Insect Repellant

Thank you for the tip Ian.

Is anyone from South of the border thinking about going in June apart from me and my wife?

I have some time off work booked either side of that weekend with no firm plans for what to do so have been toying with the idea of a highland adventure.

Even though I am only just south of the border it is quite a trek to the north west coast (7 hours according to Autoroute). Any distilleries in the locality ?

It is quite a drive in from what ever direction but need not be a laborious part of the weekend. The Friday is the drive in for all of us and I propose a common meeting point for all coming from the south and group drive from that RV. Last year it was Balmoral followed by an enjoyble drive across the mountain roads. Balmoral would be a good starting place for this year as well or possibly somewhere like Pitlochory which would be a good rest stop for those that have travelled from further south, further on route RV’s could be agreed as necessary. With the long daylight hours the drive up together becomes part of the whole event. Possibly including an evening meal stop on route.  Oh… there are lots of distilleries. Both Balmoral and Pitlochory have their own. So come along for a good fling!!

We’re having a close look at it - sounds good but think we may have to start out on Tuesday to get there to meet the rest of you on Friday!!!

Good to see you are considering joining us. The drive from South Wales is motorway most of the way and if you can share the driving it is not too bad. With a break, joining the group for the drive though the highlands to Ullapool will then fuel you with energy helped by the longer hours of daylight as you progress north. That said, if you have time a good night stop would be in the Northern Lake District area or somewhere like Kendal. From here it is a very easy drive north.

Graham

Have you put this up on the mx5scotland.co.uk websites too?

Maybe a few more takers up there too?

Hi Iainf,

Thank you for asking.

I made the request, a good while back of my AC and the AC in whom’s
area the event will take place, for the event to be put on the Scottish
forum events calander but nothing has happened. This despite the fact that there is no conflict with any events in the Northern Scotland areas as presently shown on the calander. The date of the event is dependant on the longest day of the year which is the 21 June and part of the idea of the event is to attract members from far and wide to experience the fantastic environment at this time of the year here in the far north.

I have also requested  that it is included in this coming issue of STHT and as far as I now this will happen.

If you are interested in joining us, please let me know.

I am  working on a proposed  program for this event  which I will put up here once complete and details of routes and other documentation which will be available to those joining us.

In the meantime if anyone has any questions or suggests please post here, PM or email me direct. I am presently mobile for the next 3 weeks so may take time to respond.

 Hi Graham

We’re starting our journey North on the Wednesday and have booked into a hotel in Carnforth for the Wednesday night. On Thursday night we are staying in Dunkeld so that we are not too far away (hopefully) from your meeting point on the Friday.  We also intend to add a few days at the end of the ‘Fling’ to make the most of our sightseeing trip.

Look forward to the itinery.  Do we know how many cars there are yet?
