Some lovely person has smashed my left wing mirror

  1. My model of MX-5 is: ND RF
  2. I’m based near: Woodford Essex
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: wing mirror

Any idea how much left wing mirror costs? Wondering if it is worth contacting insurance given the £200 excess or simply getting it fixed myself. It’s deliberate, I know I pushed it in 10pm last night. Woken up to find it completely smashed.

Not sure what spec you have but some details are here

Replace it yourself…it’ll cost less than your excess.

Thank you, that’s v helpful

I’m certainly not capable of doing it myself, but last time a wing mirror was done on my Audi TT doing it through insurance was so damn stressful! :grimacing:

I’m sure you are gutted but I would get it replaced myself but don’t drive it with the glass hanging is it will scratch all your door.

Of course you can do it yourself. There’s plenty of videos on utube or the like to help if you’re not 100% sure. It’s simply taking the door card off and a couple of bolts and wiring connection. It’s not rocket science.

It’s a door mirror. This is so common on MX5s! I’ve never known a model of car attract this kind of vandalism so often, it’s a regular occurrence and so sad to see.

Try Ebay still expensive but worth a Look there not hard to fit here is something I found

Pricing the mirror up (Mx5parts) body, correct colour capping and glass it will come in under £200 for parts. Not really worth going insurance claim is it.
Try the Mazda dealer for the parts they could work out less than said supplier above who knows. MX-5parts are out of stock ATM on the mirror body. Go dealer to fit or if you have a local garage to fit may work out better on labour charges.

Something to bear in mind with insurance companies is that no matter how small, or who’s fault it is, a claim is a claim, is a claim and they will take it into account, and if you decide to change insurers you will have to declare it. I hope you haven’t already been on to your insurer.

And they reason that if you make a claim (a claim is a claim to them) you’re more likely to make another within the next two years and load your policy.

I had mine replaced by the local Mazda dealer in Oxford. I bought the mirror from MX5Parts and the fitting cost under £50.

If its like my NC, its more than a couple of bolts - and getting the ‘card’ off without breaking the little plastic tabs on the door pull cover was hateful - but at least a few tabs were left to hold it in place.

Mine has been off a couple of times now, no problems, no breakages……there’s no taking into account of the kak handed lol !!

I would be interested to know how you prevented the tabs from breaking - some form of blade slid around the join?

You can buy a tool kit for getting them off, Google it, they’re very cheap.

Like these….this is a more comprehensive kit than mine, but you get the idea.

Thanks - may get that. Its knowing what to prod where that is the unknown.

Got one of those kits. Very useful
