Spell check?

Please forgive me if this has been asked before; A lot of people on this forum sometimes have really bad spelling (including me) so is there anyway a spellcheck can be added?

Hear, hear!  And an ENGLISH one please, so many are based on American spelling!

No ieda but I thnik its a rellay good ieda if im hoenst for theos taht sturlgge wtih the Engilsh langage

Thumbs Up

Great idea

I thought all web browsers had spell checkers built in now? Certainly using Chrome that spell checks stuff as you type on here and anywhere else you happen to be typing on the internet. Have a look at that, it may be something you need to add or turn on in the browser…

Hmm, it should be a part of your browser.  All of them allow the choice of appropriate language dictionaries, and the better ones also allow you to add your own spellings to a custom/personal dictionary. May I suggest you have a closer look at its options for configuration preferences?

For example, on the text of yours  I’ve quoted above you used the word ‘spellcheck’.  The dictionary in my Firefox browser suggest this is a mistake with a wiggly red underline, and when I right click on it offers three alternatives, ‘spell check’ or spell-check’ or ‘speechless’.  As you can see it is a machine doing its best…

that’s interesting, I didn’t know I could use the chrome checker on this forum (or have I misunderstood?) must investigate

Thanks folks, found the chrome spell check, switched it on & now it’s working on the forum. Brilliant!

BUT;

chrome only does USA-English spellcheck not English-English

at least it is now on

That explains why my ENGLISH spelling is underlined in red, my browser is chrome too!

I’m not familiar with Chrome, so I did a search and found this link which shows how.

Have patience and, as with all technology, it will happen, eventually.

Spell cheque is grate. Ass long ass ewe ewes it awl the thyme ewe can bee shore awl yaw words are spelt write.

Eye fink eye no wot yore tawkin abowt.  Rowstin a shepe, rite?  ■■■■ eyed ewes rosemarie knot time.

You dnot need a slepl cechk, as lnog as the frsit and lsat lteetr of ecah wrod are in the croerct paecl and you hvae iucdnled all the ltetres, as a gnearel rlue poplee can usdnsaetrnd waht you hvae witretn aywnay.

That’s very true, it’s a proven fact!  And in these previous few posts the spell checker would be of no use as most of the words were spelled correctly but used in the wrong context/situation, so maybe someone should invent a grammar/word usage checker!?

A friend of mine could not decide on which spelling of a certain word was the one he wanted, so he used all the  three options given in his letter.

Thank goodness there was only one word that had him confused!

If all of the above fails, simply open Word at the same time as your browser, type your reply in Word, run spell check and adjust as necessary - then copy n paste into the browser.
