I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: stiff hand brake.
Hi all. Since picking up our Mk1 last Monday we have been having ongoing issue with the handbrake returning back to down. Push putting in fine but then it just won’t go down. Couple times a gentle pull up then down does the trick but on other occasions, such on when the wife took it out with a neighbour, it would really put up a fight! Video of it the neighbour took was hilarious but none the less it’s a pain the backside and I’m worried could be doing some damage forcing it. The brakes themselves don’t seem to be binding once down it’s just getting the damn thing down in the first place. Any recommendations? Has this happened to others? And what did you do to resolve it?

I’m not an expert on these matters and there are people with far greater knowledge. I think there are three main components, the rear connection to the brakes, the handbrake adjuster and the cable that connects the handbrake to the rear brakes.
Sounds to me that it’s ever the handbrake adjuster to slacken tension or the cable.
For ease you could look at the handbrake adjuster first, although the issue may lie elsewhere.
