The meaning of life and everything

Hello, me in a car, who would have thought it. I’ve only owned one other car, way back in 1980 I was the proud owner of a fiat X19, green, targa top, seriously underpowered but fun for the year that i owned it. The rest of my life ive been on motorcycles,99% Kawasaki, ridden every mountain range in europe and loved every minute of it.
After suffering a major heart attack, im now on a handful of blood thinners and my cardiologist looked like he was going to have a seizure when i said that i was looking forward to getting back on a bike, so i chose an MX5, being, in my mind, a hybrid bike/ car beast.
I can still see the sky, love the way the roof comes down in a few seconds, oh I have the recaro special edition 2016 in soul red, with only ten thousand miles on the clock, that new car smell, and a sticker saying it was at last years aerodrome “drive out”?.
So thats why im here. Its the 2 ltr version with a sports exhaust upgraded brakes, and every option in the catalogue, and really well looked after not a mark on it, someone here will probably recognise it.
Massive amounts of luggage space, all my kriega bike luggage fits in the boot, thats 100ltrs with room to spare.
Im using it daily, and finding it …mmm fun … Im still adjusting my skills from bike to car, but i think ive made the right choice.
Anyway just saying hello, I know nothing about cars but if you want to talk bikes I’m about, :joy: .
Hol.

What do Cardios know?
Mine said a few months back my days of long hauls were done.
So , I drove to Skye in a day, stayed a few days, and drove back.
Stepped out the hired Kia Crossover fresh as a daisy.
She ( the Cardio) went a bit silent when she asked me what I’d been “up to”…I showed her some photos.

I still have a bike, but only for warm dry sunny days not rampaging around europe in the rain.
It was gaffer who pointed me in the direction of the MX5. But yes its a big deal for me.
I have so much more time now im retired :joy:

Drove to work this morning, still working out what all the buttons do, it has all the options so I’ll be a while working it out.
Really happy that i just carry my walkman in my pocket, choose my album on the way to the car, it connects and plays, marvelous. I have nearly four hundred albums, so im seriously impressed with the sound system.
Souxsie and the banshees on the way to work… :sunglasses:
Glimmer of sunshine at the traffic lights, five seconds later the roof is down.
I have an amber warning light which is a key, wont go off, any ideas.

Hi Mick, ive tried opening and closing the doors, pressing all the buttons and moving the key fob around the cabin, to no avail… Is it possible that its the key fob battery?

You’ll get better replies from ND owners, they’ll know, it seems maybe the key isn’t in range, maybe something else battery??
Don’t have these key warnings in the NC as such, they are key turn in the ignition starts.

Key for battery flashes up a specific warning on the gauge cluster specifically warning it is low, well it does on the ND2 anyway.

This link is the CX5 though expect it will be the same.

Hi Ian, that was an easy solve, when i got the car, both the keys were together, when I seperated them i put my house key on one and put the other one in my car folder.
So

  1. I have no idea which was the primary key.
  2. The keyless fob was coming into contact with.my metal house key. Removed.
  3. Used the end of the fob to start the car, warning light went out.

Thanks Ian for pointing me in the right direction.

Hi. I’ve just rejoined the club, but I’ve had my Mk 2 since 2004. I was a biker for many years before that, but had to give it up after the orthopaedic guy told me that if I fell off again I’d probably end up in a wheelchair. I bought my MX5 as a 4-wheeled motorbike, and it’s served me very well in that role ever since. I too had a cardiac issue a couple of years ago so I had to surrender my licence. Once the consultant OK’d me to drive again it took the DVLA a full year to issue me with a new licence. Getting back behind the wheel of my MX5 after all that time was a slightly weird and utterly delightful experience.

Welcome to the club, may you have many years of happy and healthy MX5 driving ahead of you !

Hi Bob, nice to know that im not the only one who sees the mx5 as a four wheeled motorcycle.
I still cant get over how much luggage space it has,all my kreiga luggage fits in the boot,no strapping down and loads of space left over, i remember spending a week in the pyranees with a 30ltr rucksack, now ive got 100ltrs plus,i can see the sky, not feel sick as most cars wobble on too many planes for me, and i can have a drink on the move and im not automatically searching for fuel after a hundred miles :joy: .
After not driving a car for twenty odd years its been a steep learning curve, but, im getting there, i wanted a vehicle that would be fun ,and be exciting on the kinds of roads i used to ride bikes on, so far its delivered.
Im begining to bond with my MX5 ,im looking forward to the summer, im planning a road trip to rome, to start with, and maybe a trip to the ring :joy:

Hi Art ,yes, Ive been there many times but on a bike never in a car,now that would be an experience.
I started doing laps of the ring when it was € 4.50 a lap :joy: and i havnt been for ten years so i bet its gone up in price.
