Lancia Beta?

You beat me to it…!
Rob

I had a lift in the one that was featured on That’s Life all those years ago, the owner worked with me for a few months.

I asked him what the creaking noise was, he mentioned a stress crack in the chassis. Lancia had previously said to drive it a bit more and see how bad it would get!

By this time he was in legal negotiations with Lancia and at a dead loss. So he contacted a friend who worked in That’s Life and the rest is history.

Edit. It’s taken me all this time to remember his first name! Selwyn.

Looks like one of my previous Transits

Can’t be one of my old Cortinas, no evidence of newspaper stuffed in the wings!

A friend of mine had an old notch/back 1958 Victor F. His parents were abroad so he was living with a school friend for a couple of weeks before going to Uni.

His green Victor was a grinding creaking rust bucket, and fit only for the scrappie. However by coincidence the mother in the house had a big roll of brown celluloid packing tape and a couple of cans of the right colour spray paint. She dressed all the holes with the tape and paint, saying she used to patch up the bullet holes in Hurricanes during the war. She also crawled under the car and added cornflour to the diff and gearbox oils. Apparently it sounded quite nice and looked amazing.

My friend joined me at Uni, and a week later got a phone call saying she had sold the car for ÂŁ30 (a lot in 1966), and either the buyer was happy with it or it had broken down too far away for him to get back to her!

Victor F and the pink Velox PA are definitely candidates or perhaps it could be a Renault Dauphine.

Me too, bought one I knew it was rough but it served a purpose for a few months. Chicken wire newspaper and filler holding the tops of the wings together. The rear doors were that far gone a trip to the scrappers for a decent pair. Although they were a different shade of blue nothing that couldn’t be fixed with a couple of rattle cans of light blue metallic paint.

I am presuming as this is an MX5 forum that it was someones NA/NB sills?

I too had a Lancia (a Beta Montecarlo) which was great, but rotten as a 2 year old egg…I still look on pistonheads for them, but they are few and far between (wonder why?) and getting pricy… My ideal car would be a Lancia 037 road car in red, probably most are kept rust free due to always being worth a lot…

UK spec NB-FL chassis rails, the good bits, from somewhere up North.

This looks a lot like my car right now! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::grimacing::pleading_face::persevere::sob:

Looks like my parent’s BL Marina that I learnt to drive on.

If it came off a Sixties ’ Ferrari it would be entirely in character . And if you could prove it it was off a GTO you’d get a prize at Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance for the most authentically patinated classic Ferrari.

Off a Viva HA though …not so much chance

Viva HA! Must have been the best gear change ever, loved the short snickerty action.

A up them w’t days ee lad.

I had a new 1.5 Tii, two twin choke webers, proper little motor, loved it despite having to push start it 2 days after getting it.
Isn’t nostalgia a powerful drug!

My early years were spent on an E plated '67 Ford Anglia van from a DIY shop. 998cc engine, 0-60 in half a day, and I was convinced one day when I reached 70mph downhill on the M1, I could see the fuel gauge moving in a negative direction!

Bus driver sized steering wheel was changed for a “go faster” smaller one, and the rear doors were jammed with polystyrene to stop the headache inducing squeaks. Crossply tyres - remember them? Such fun in the wet.

Lovely memories for a teenager…
