Oi.
Bog off.
I’m in front…
I’m also happy that this off topic thread has appeared… As far as material goods go I’d have to say timepieces, in particular the mechanical variety, are my favourite things and I’ve been lucky enough to acquire a few over the years, most recently a Datejust 36 with royal blue dial. I have to say my favourite is the 2021 Speedy Moonwatch with Sapphire caseback though, I just adore it.
The Constellation is also a bit of a unicorn, 1966 automatic with alligator skin straps!
Bit off topic, but I note some of you like Seiko… and this seemed a bit of a bargain…if the original price is accurate. Quite nice looking IMHO also: Seiko Chronograph Men's Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch- H.Samuel
The watch was our one-off Christmas bonus as the company had done unusually well that year and we had put in a great deal of effort in our department. I’d far rather have had some cash but we weren’t given a choice.
However, the extremely long hours we were continually expected to work without meal breaks (often more than twelve hours and sometimes not getting home for days on end) eventually caused me health problems and thankfully I found another job.
That was fifteen years ago.
Some nice stuff in the HS sale. Sekonda from £12.49 and Citizen Eco-Drive at a penny under a ton.
I’m really enjoying all the posts on this thread. I don’t feel dressed if i go out without a watch but part of the joy of being retired is not clock watching.
Don’t think I’ve ever paid more than around 50 quid on a watch but still I get great pleasure looking at Breitlings and the like in a jeweller’s window.
Platinum Speedmaster with 321 movement and meteorite subdials. This is going to take more than one visit to the Boutique before it sits permanently on my wrist $$$$$$$$$
Also Retired … and Like Roadie I feel the same, doing dirty jobs either around the house or bikes or cars in the morning means I take whatever watch I was wearing off to wash, and when I go out later on to do the shopping notice a bare wrist so now I keep a cheapie in the glove box… last count I think was mid 20’s number wise mix of decent stuff and cheapies I’m not a snob I have had nice real stuff lost a few had to sell the odd one when things got tight, so these days I don’t fall in love with bikes cars or watches… PICS later fav at moment is a cheap copy Tudor…will
I’ve been (early) retired coming up to 9 years and never feel totally dressed unless I have a watch on. When you’ve spent the best part of your life needing to keep an eye on what time it is, it’s a habit that doesn’t leave you easily.
My humble contribution to this interesting thread.
A cheapie from the market on the left for work. Also helps the 5yr old tell the time.
The Ice watch for casual wear. Comes in many of colours, but my car is blue,so it kind of matches.
The Boss one for best. Not too expensive, but i like it
This because I race ILCAs / Lasers (sailing dinghy raced in the Olympics). The tape is to prevent the watch, which rotates, from falling out. Racing is started using flags and associated hoots/guns and you sync the watch to the starting sequence so you know when to start. As set it’s showing the standard race start sequence of 5, 4, 1, 0. It’s an Optimum Time (brand) Big Yellow (model).
I love my Speedmaster moon watch too, which I bought in 2002, so it’s 20 years old now. Mine is just the steel back.
Nice to see a Monaco @Roadster_Robbie
My Christopher Ward Chronometer, C60 Bronze case. Love the way the case “ages” then if i want it to look new just clean it. Not often you can get a chrono for less than a grand!
My bargain “Omega” bought for £45 of the flea bay (no one believed it was a real as it doeas not have “Swiss Made” at 6 o’clock. But had it authenticated, and it is runs really well for a 1950’s watch. Has a “Bumper” movement inside so you can really feel it move.
My Bremont limited edition “Royal Marines” watch 1 of only 150 Chrono. Sadly back with them after only a few months due to movement “stuttering”. Hope they fix it soon
I just love my Seiko “Monster” Bought off the flea bay some 10 plus years ago, keeps time brilliantly, it’s my “gardening”, “swimming” watch can take a good beasting. Only had it serviced once and just keeps going.

this Zodiac is rare in that it has “floating” hands and the second dot spinning round. Lovely an “different”

My 1914 “Trench” watch. I bought it for a few quid (less than £40 i think) back in 2014 as a reminder of those poor souls who had to fight in WW1. Goes really well, but only wear it now and again. Worried strap might break
Sorry for poor quality of photo’s. Keep them coming. Love the history lessons. That old Rolex that is radio active is certainly worth something. Have it looked at by “Wiltshire Watches” he specialises in Rolex. and does a great job at getting old watches going again
Oh and every collection has to have a “Mickey Mouse watch”
The radioactive luminous markings reminds me of my time with BT. Anybody remember the ‘Trimphone’ model? They had a luminous dial which was a circular glass tube containing the luminous material behind an opaque dial face.
Stocks of them that were kept in the local depot stores had to be moved around the shelves every couple of weeks. Any number of them stored in one spot for a long time period would have taken the radiation levels to unacceptable levels.
We had a trimphone…
Don’t panic. Any exposure is probably down to around half life levels by now…
