To buy or not to buy?

The Red Mk1 didn’t have lacquer (only Silver was lacquered)

I wasn’t aware the Mk1 came in a diesel flavour.

Now you are.

Could I see it? Nope!

This is why many imports are missing a correct engine number on the V5.

On intake side on a 1.6, exhaust 1.8.

I’m looking at the right place then. Hard to get too. DVLA won’t be happy without this number and just vin!

I assumed OP had a 1.6.

None of the imports I have ever had have the engine number on the logbook, the VIN is used instead.

Ok cheers. I won’t stress too much about that on V55.

Did a little tidy up of the alloys today on the inside rim! Pleased with the difference.

So what would be a good indication of this lovely old classic going to a good home? Well the new owner tidying up parts of the car that aren’t really visible would be a good sign.

Great job sir. All the best to you both.

:grinning:

Thank you.

Good to go over every inch. The problem is I’m getting attached and may want to see her 30th birthday!

You’re not planning to sell it are you? :astonished:

My plan was to ‘Save’ and ‘Sell’.

You said it. Now stop this silly talk about selling and if you do make sure it’s to one of the good folk on here.

My feeling is, keep it, keep it, keep it and enjoy the car and all the hard work and effort you’ve put into it. Whatever price you’d get for it would never replace what “you” have put into it and my guess is that you’d regret selling it 5 minutes after finalising the deal, and for the rest of your life. Just my opinion.

Oh the club would be getting first refusal!

Maybe I’ll put a few miles on the 15,192 to make sure it’s running sweet. Apart from loving the old feel it gives it’s more that it would be hard to find another in this condition with its lovely history! It won’t be getting a J plate til end of June ish so a bit of time to think. If it’s not worth much then I would probably keep it!

That seems very sketchy supporting the car on two Mazda scissor jacks. Many many moons ago, as a poor undergrad, I had an Austin Mini van that was more rust than metal. It didn’t have a jack. So I brought a second hand 4 ton scissor jack off the market for a tenner (a lot of money when exisiting on a £1500 a year grant). Jacked up the Mini, wheel off, to do some pointless undersealing. Jack collapsed, I survived. Lesson learnt.
