To buy or not to buy?

Good luck with the Beetle, that lime green used to be highly sought after as it was one of the GTBeetle colours

It’s being sold as seen!

We had a few Beetles.
I learned in our black 1200A.

They are highly Marmite.
I like them as they are so delectably bliidy awful but “heroic” at the same time.
You could say it’s the multi-level awfulness that gives them their…erm… charm…and millions of followers over many decades.

Plenty of room so would fit all marks with one belt under door for securing underneath.

Operation; engine start. Fitted lovely new fuel pump and she fired up straight away.

For a short while she was firing on 3 plugs but after warming up all was well and she’s now ticking over lovely driving forward and reversing fine on the gear box! Brakes even had some use.
Next job will be full service and I’m also speaking to DVLA about getting this plate on asap.

Was that first photo taken on the road to Applecross by any chance?

No.
Never been. If I was not there, it’d have been a short range weekend run-out.
Old Rest & Be Thankful…I think.
Be around 1966/1967

I was going to do a sort of mini-500 after Mk1 was restored but Cov-id prevented that.
On my bucket list though…as is Skye and a few others. Never been there either.

Not surprised the Auto was all good.
These boxes are (almost) indestructible so long as you play nice with filter/service.
Mine’s been perfect for 140-odd sometimes very brutal miles for 15 years in my “care” of it’s 27 years.
I do an ATF switch every 5 years or so though…plus Forte Auto conditioner.
Only thing that’s failed so far was the O/d pressure switch which was fixed two weeks back.
Amazing really.
Really enjoying what you are achieving here, another rare wee beastie dodging a bullet.

I can highly recommend the mountain road to Applecross (there is an alternative, less fun road), it’s like Scotland’s version of the Stelvio Pass!

Exactly.
Know many who say the same. I cannot wait!
I’ll be solo though…SWMBO not a good passenger or long distance car traveller unfortunately.
At least I can swear at the sheep, and crank up me Rock 'n Roll.
The 1840cc autos can climb the side of a building locked in Low & Intermediate.
Perfect machine for tough roads.

Ordered a few bits today for the little red Mazda for its first service.
45% of euro car parts, ill take that!
Pads and discs all round
New spark plugs
Air, oil and fuel filter
New camshaft timing belt set

That will freshen things up with a oil change and change the brake fluid.

You mean you’ve never done the Bealach na Ba or can’t wait to do it again?

That’s a surprise if not🤔

Mick,
I know the Lakes, Wales ( especially the Brecons) and some of Yorkshire Dales better than Scotland.
Usually Scots drives were business to business up and down the A9.
This is a hangover from business driving. I’ve never really had the time until retiral to venture N’W etc.
Hence , the bucket list when Cov-id restrictions ease legally.
Never really could justify the required disposable income while bringing son up either.
Scotland for leisure driving , I believe, is actually one hell of a lot bigger to get around than folks realise.

In case people are interested in how the beetle goes or know anyone that wants a challenge.

I said to….SWMBO.…the other night it’d go 4 figures easy.
Good pay day to invest into the Mk1.
