Total nightmare day: Rear ended by a mobile phone driver

Can’t believe how p-eed of I am. I’ve cried my eyes out when i got home. Got rear ended in stop/start traffic by a mobile phone ‘driver’. Top down, I could see him on it. Bamm. I totally melted down. Got the coppers and he got 6 points and the fine. ‘I was checking my shifts’. Can you imagine how I felt/feel, my love, something I don’t even drive when the floor’s wet, gets rear ended by a fing driver on a phone. To make it worse, I totally detest the ‘practice’ with a passion. The amount of times I’ve ranted about mobile drivers in the past. Totally gutted.

So sorry to hear that John. I can completely understand how upset you must be feeling

How terrible! At least no humans were hurt but I ttly get - your heart hurts.
So sorry. Doubt I can help with what’s next but I am sure many folk will
extend condolences & advice. Time for a bit of adult beverage now ? :face_exhaling:

That’s awful news. At least you are not hurt but really feel for you

That’s a shocker. Hope the damage isn’t too bad

Gutted for you.

IMHO - the fine should be at least 1K ( + points ) for hand held mobile phone use now.

There is no excuse considering the cheap cost of adding bluetooth to most cars today.

A guy just up the road from me is regularly on his phone as he leaves the estate.
He has only been out of the house less than a minute - exactly what can be so important that he must be on the phone so soon.

Thanks guys. Totally lost it. Cried too when I got home. Of the twin exhaust pipes, one is slightly bent in (slightly by only degrees). Number plate lights handing out. damaged boot release (but still works). Crease on bumper, as well as the chips/scratches etc, as you can gather from a low speed rear hit. Probably a new bumper, and not sure about the exhaust tips. Why the fk do i have to feel like this, deal with this. I didn’t nothing wrong, just out trying to have a spin in my car which means the world to me. These mobile phone drivers. make my blood boil. ‘I was checking my shifts’ he said. I melted down, called 999, said I’ve been hit by a ‘driver’ using his phone. 5 mins later, cops came (but apparently called by a member of the public, probably due to how I was!). But get this, after a woman copper talked to him (i was talking to her male colleague), she came back and said he didn’t admit he was on his phone, my word against his etc, but as I was rear ended, it’s a straight up fault on his behalf case…I went back to the guy and said ‘what’s wrong with you, why didn’t you tell her (the cop) that you were on your phone, like you told me, and as I told you I could see you on it?’ He said ‘I did tell her’ (!!!) so I went back to her saying what are you doing, he admitted it! She said about whether he was moving or not, i said it don’t matter he’s on a phone in traffic!! Law says it don’t matter if your moving, stropped, or even got stop start on. She went back and came back saying she misunderstood what he said (!!). The other copper booked him (6pts, £200 fine), and I’ve got a crime number. Rang the insurance.
Totally upset. More than you can imagine. Might sound sad, but other than my Mrs and dog, I don’t think I love anything more.

Sorry to hear about this. I hate seeing people on the phone when they’re supposed to be driving. Some people have such a sense of self importance it’s unreal.

So very sorry for your trouble- fully understand your angst and reaction.
The only blessing is that no one was killed due to such selfishness.
Best wishes for getting it all sorted

Thanks again for the kind words.
You wouldn’t believe how much I’ve looked after it for the past 6 years. I could tell you the lengths and you’d think I was joking. F-ing despise people who do this. Still totally seething.

Cheers.

Yes, ref the insurance, I rang mine (LV) and they were very sympathetic. You could imagine how emotional I was shortly after the event and he was really nice and said now and again you have a customer like me who rings, where it’s clearly more than a car to them
I said a Mazda approved place is about 17 miles from me and I don’t want no one else touching it, Ceramic Metallic etc etc. They said their (LV) approved ones aren’t Mazda approved, and I said I also don’t care who his insurance says (Admiral the guy said he’s with). LV in fairness said they recommend to go with who I told them I wanted to go with, given it’s clear how much I care for the car, and sent the start off email to them. LV guy was really great given how emotional I was (in a crestfallen/shellshocked way).

One of the rear number plate lights is totally unclipped, leaving a bit rectanglur gap. Would you put clear gorilla tape etc over it, to stop water getting in the now rectangular hole, or don’t it matter?

Also, this is the slightly skewed exhaust pipes. Don’t look that big a difference in the pic (not so much in real life actually), but one is slightly more angled towards the other, and if put a ruler on them, you can see one is now slightly higher than the other (the ruler is not straight etc, when resting straight across the top of them)

Oh for God’s sake, of course it’s a PITA but most of us have had minor shunts . It happens , the car is fixable and nobody was hurt . Save the tears for the serious accident I hope you never have, or even witness.

She’ll be right soon. Little bit of fettling, Bob’s yer uncle. Main thing is, you did not get a dose of neck abuse. Says he, sitting here with a metal patch in his skull following getting Tboned by… a drunk …in his PO van 28 years back after my stunning Opel Monza was fresh out the paint shop & chassis mods…8 years after getting written off by an errant female doing a Uturn in front me and totalling my newly re-furbed old school Celica 2lt GT Liftback. Kinda put me off driving for a bit…had to get back in saddle though for job. As for the barsteward who suddenly denied he was on phone…it’s dead easy to track back and see his activity was at time of impact so who is he trying to kid…the cretinous moron. We can only hope he does not breed. Darwin would not approve.

When my 12-month old car was written off by a woman, who pulled out of a side road without looking, LV were first class in sorting matters out on the day as the car was stuck in the middle of the road.

I did not quite lose it, but as she pleaded insanity on her part, being late for work, or whatever, I gave her a slow hand clap and said “well done.” The guy behind was in an Aston Martin and actually thanked me, as it would otherwise have been him who took the impact!

Whether she was on her phone or not was not established, but when the police came, they found she did not have travel to work insurance cover, so she really did have more problems than her own wrecked car. I, sadly, did not have any sympathy for her in the slightest.

My low mileage, near mint 2005 NB was hit by an elderly Honda HR-V driver who really shouldn’t have been allowed on the road. It needed a new bumper and front wing and was declared uneconomical to repair. I had to buy the car back off the insurance company and arrange the repair myself. That was a proper drama.

I feel your pain and any kind of accident is traumatic. Sleepless nights and flashbacks etc etc. But at least you won’t have that hassle. The insurance will get it fixed and you’ll get it back as new. Think yourself lucky. No one died, no one was injured. It’s just a car.

My Precious was off the road for 6 months and every time I came home there it was, sat in the drive looking sorry for itself with a smashed in front. But I worked my way through it. Now I don’t drive it like it was wrapped in cotton wool any more. If anything that’s a release. I just drive it like I stole it every chance I get, winter or summer, and love the hell out of it. It’s got a Cat-N rating now so it would be more difficult to sell, but who cares, it stays with me until either I kick the bucket or it dissolves into a pile of rust on the drive.

These things are sent to try us, as my dear old Irish mother used to say. You’ll get through it.

Yeah, ta mate. Lovely words
I don’t know how connected emotionally you are to your ND, but if it’s your pride and joy and someone whacks into the back of it, due to using a mobile phone when ‘driving’, I’ll ensure that I don’t extend the same flippant remarks.
