Website Feedback

As the title says, all working beautifully this morning thank you!

Karl

It’s been great for me again today!

In the last two days, I’ve twice posted a reply to a thread, long wait*, then got a 404 (page not found) then after an even longer delay - clicked forum header, and lo and behold, reply entered. One post I lost totally, it went into the ether apparently - one of my long ones, so I abandoned it altogether. (that IS annoying.)

*Long delay = more than 30 seconds. Loading any thread also takes tine in some cases. Sometimes I have to click twice to achieve anything. (after a delay).

Also noticeable - number of apologies for double (and treble) posts. - Another sign I’m not alone. (I try not to double post, expecting a delay, but sometimes when nothing happens, you can’t avoid it.) This has been a continual problem over the last two years, interspersed with return to normality on odd occasions. I have offered defense for delays in the past (and been shot down for it) but I can’t keep doing it when it just carries on. It’s either a BB poor choice, or a server problem, but the only cure is dump one or both, and try something that works 100%.

We never had these kind of problems with the original MS based forum, except that it had a habit of logging us off, when typing a long post - standard feature on some sites, after apparent ‘no use’ for a period of time. I took a tip from Martin and used Word, and then cut and paste, which solved that problem. It was a simple software fix, but it was never done (nobody knew how IMHO)

Moans and groans from a select few (OS and BB fans) who carried the ‘Hate MS’ flag were presumably responsible for the adoption of a BB, which fine - worked O’K for a couple of years, but then the hiccups started. While suggested by the original programmer, the move to Governor to ‘back up’ the site proved ultimately a bad choice, as the programmer left their employ, the site started going downhill. O/K - I’m biased, but a years hard work went up the Swanee.(Twice) We also lost most of the front end, so the website as a whole is no longer a store of information as it used to be.(No articles, no photo center, no info re the Committee etc etc.) Whoopee - replaced by smileys! As I mainly use ‘quick reply’ (saves website space) smileys are not available.

Positively glacial…

Positively glacial…

As soon as someone says it’s all going swimmingly we get a double post.

Doh!

And I got a 404 posting this.

Double doh!

Exactly…

Exactly…

Exactly…

BK65 - swear on you right forefinger you didn’t do that on purpose!

A 404, a double and a triple in three replies! Nice one.

Very very slow today

Upon pain of having my right forefinger removed, I swear I only pressed the post button once !..it’s just taken over a minute to log in to make this reply…tbh it’s extremely frustrating…I answered a question in a different thread and ‘crossed posts’ with another poster who’s obviously having the same issues…pretty poor really in this day & age…

I am having no problems at all.

There you go, seems ok at the mo…trouble is it doesn’t work like that all the time

But it does some of the time. Most of the time. To be honest, about 99% of the time for me. And yet all we get is bloody moaning as if no one at the OC is aware of any problems - that they haven’t heard it all before again and again and again and again. That’s what this thread was supposed to be about - a lone thread mentioning that things are fine most of the time for most of the people, but inevitably it has descended into a slag-fest where people explain the problems again whilst telling other people what THEY should do about it.

The OC isn’t big enough to have servers the size of Facebook etc, but it’s too big to piggy back on shared resources, so it relies on volunteers and in the past 4 years a grand total of 2 (two) people have done some thing other than moan and tried to help Ramsay - and one of them has chucked it in because, among other reasons, he was sick to death of armchair critics being negative all the time.

Please, go on posting your moany, whiny comments about how shit it is here regardless of how that affects the poor bastards trying to keep things running behind the scenes (all two of them) and I’ll keep posting to this thread every time the OC website works as it should. If anyone wants to join me you’re welcome.

Not everyone has the time or knowledge to help, but if that’s the case and you’ve made your point does your moaning have to be aired repeatedly? THE OC KNOW THAT THINGS AREN’T RIGHT AND ARE WORKING ON IT! I’m sure I’ve heard that mentioned a few times before but I’m sure it’ll get ignored again. And if you do have time & knowledge please feel free to offer your services to the OC so things can hopefully be speeded up.

Karl (The one who chucked it in.)

I merely said it was slow…that’s feedback…I am well aware that the powers that be are fully aware of the on going situation and plans are afoot to rectify the issue.

While it may be good for you it’s plainly obvious that not everybody is as fortunate, that’s what is so frustrating and spoils the enjoyment.

99% of the time I use it. You knew what I meant. Thanks for being obtuse.

There is nothing in there that hasn’t been aired thousands of times. And yes that is an issue - if it’s been aired a thousand times why hasn’t anything been done about it yet? And the response has been a thousand times that people are working on it. Two people are working out the best way of making sure the next move for the OC online is the right one and that things go as well as possible when it happens. Everyone knows this.

I’m not averse to criticism Gerry despite what you think, but there are ways and means. Repeating “You’re shit!” as of everywhere else on the internet is perfect isn’t a help.

On long journeys with my children we often get the “I’m hungry!” whine. That’s fine, I can cope with it. But when it gets repeated every five minutes when we have no food in the car, and we haven’t passed a service station or, we haven’t passed a service station that would best suit our culinary needs, and each time we remind her of that and still she tells her she’s hungry. Then it begins to grate.

Worked without problem, even on my phone. Again.
