What annoys you about your MX-5?

That would be “The Gram Strategy “ perhaps?

The little tool box in the boot is made from plastic twice as thick as the moustache.

They saved a few grams by only including one cup holder and by giving me a jack handle but no jack. Just been out with a torch trying to find the 12v socket for the pump and couldn’t find it the carpet is all one piece passenger side so unless it’s hidden under the clutch rest I have no clue.

You have to look on the passenger side, next to the transmission tunnel where the glove box should be but isn’t! Kneel down with your head in the footwell and turn your head 90 degrees to the left!

I saw your pic from a 2024 thread and just went to look.
can’t lift any of the carpet it’s all one piece and tucked under. Will try again tomorrow but otherwise will install my own.

One cup holder! I definitely got two last year so either they have changed the allocation or you’ve been short changed.

You don’t need to lift the carpet!

Obviously one for the Amazonian market.

No warning triangle either Just added one and about twenty kilos of tools, jack, jump leads etc for travelling with. Then thought I’d better check the pump!!!

Everyone knows you need 4 like in the NC! :joy:

Annoy is a rather mild term for my particular gripe! A totally stupid assembly process at the Mazda factory really pulls my chain. My NC 3.0 has rarely been exposed to rain and never to snow, ice and salt. However, removing the rear clamshell to rectify the light damage caused by a myopic shopper in my local Tesco’s revealed a horrifying sight. Brown corrosion stains emanating from under the mounting faces of the top hat section crash structure. The idiots in assembly has bolted the crash structure to the boot panel before applying a coating. Removing the six nuts and the structure revealed two square patches of extreme corrosion… on one side, almost perforation! New material had to be inserted then primed and painted, the crash structure blast cleaned, primed and painted and the reassembly completed with a water/moistureproofing silicone fillet between the parts. Mazda could have completed painting the tub in the chosen colour and then fitted a prepainted crash structure. Given that it is unseen they could have batch painted the crash structures in ANY damn colour!

It’s all about cost and forecourt price in vehicle mass production. They will have calculated the cost/value benefit and determined that 99.something percent of cars would die of something else before this became an issue. Unfortunately Mazda applied the same logic to an MX-5 as a 2, 3 or 6, not taking into account the longer average lifespan/usage of the MX. Part of the reason Porsches for example both cost and weigh more but have bodies (if not mechanicals) that tend to last longer/require less welding.

Been there done that. I stripped it all down, cleaned off the rust, treated it with rust killer then gave it a coat of stonechip.

I did the same in 2022…….
