It looks great. Where did you get the Mazda lettering from and have your wheels been refurbished?
Thanks Terry.
Mazda stickers were off ebay approx £4 for 8 (2 larger ones fitted the back and smaller ones on the front). Then a quick spray over with lacquer so hopefully they dont come off when powerwashed, not powerwashed it yet so dont know if that works.
Wheels were the first thing I had refurbished, 8yr old car 100k miles, they were a bit tatty when I bought it.
Hi everyone, as I started this thread I was going to put pictures up of my finally painted calipers, I decided on blue, as usual I left it to late as zebedee has beaten me to it (thanks zebedee). But if anyone wants to see them take a look at zebedee,s paint job because mine are identical to his minus the transfers. Thanks again for all who answered. Steve

Sorry to have highjacked your thread, my intention was to show you what they were like to help you decide, glad Im not the only one who likes the blue…most people seem to dive in with red.
Please post some pictures, i never get fed up of seeing other peoples pics.
Does look nice - just needs lowering now!
It was looking exceptionally high in the posted picture as it had just come down of the jacks, but it is still high with the 4x4 look. I used to have a hard top Mk3 a year before getting this one and it was excessively lowered (not slammed) and it was a harsh ride, difficult to overtake other cars as it would not drive in a straight line under hard acceleration and bumpy road, got stuck on speed humps…so Im enjoying the slightly higher ride with this one despite the fact it does look better lowered. Im sure the lowering had been done very badly by the PO, but it has put me off for the time being…maybe Meister Coilovers next year if the budget will allow.
I like the blue caliper paint and added stickers.
Can’t say i think much of the gold version though; do you get a free chest medallion with that?
I’ve spotted some nice copper coloured Hammerite in Halfords, I am going to try it on my calipers.
Red calipers would look a bit OTT on a red car.
Be warned. Hammerite does not stand up well to heat. I know a lot of people use it, but if you get a sticking caliper in the future, the heat will cause a mess which is a pain in the bum to tidy up. Much better off using a paint that will stand the heat. There are loads of paints made for the job, Hammerite isn’t one of them.
I beg to differ
Ive used Hammerite very successfully over a number of years with no problems at all
I’ve used Hammerite a number of times too and never had any issues. Although I’ve never had a sticking caliper to make the issues.
In honesty the issues with overtaking sound more alignment than the fault of the cars lowering. Mine is lowered and I must admit the X brace underneath in the middle does catch over some bits. Running a Bilstein B12 setup on mine.
Go for Silver it keeps the OEM look if that is your cup of tea…I must admit I had the same debate for about 3 months then picked up some Hammerite on a whim. Decided on Silver, the calipers and hubs had just got to me after that long. Plus with my summer wheels being silver face over a black base that is over the full wheel it just fits nicely. Winter wise the wheels need a refurb but are silver…
It depends where you are using it I suppose but I have never had an issue.
Still not sure on colour but I bought the silver hammerite anyway, copper colour not in stock.
Yes I’ve always used Hammerite on calipers, never been a problem. I don’t go OTT with it really just a light brush over, for a cleaner look. The discs don’t half rust up easily as well so they get treated too, that’s the bit that the pads don’t touch of course.
Better than looking at this behind a nice shiney alloy
Always finishes the look of a nice clean car and some tyre treatment too.
Hi All,
Glad i found this thread! I have a 96 Merlot and had already decided on gold for the calipers, the pictures have now convinced me it would look so much better. i will use VHT paint, as I also want to paint the cam cover gold as well. Also ordered some new discs, so will paint hubs and guards in black to really smarten up the brakes. The first of many under the car jobs this winter, hopefully have her on stands in the garage within the next week…
Happy caliper painting All!
Paul.
Pictures are mandatory
Sounds really good mate - looking forward to the finished results!
No colour is the correct colour - they are not normally painted as standard.
Must do this at some point.
Not sure on colour though.
